After skinning these little guys I juicify them in the food processor then strain because they are packed with seeds. This is really good stuff, especially cold, and tastes to me like no other fruit. Gratuitous sixgun included as usual. BTW. No wonder what precautions you take you always get at least two little invisible thorns in the finger. I do anyway but it's worth it.

Gina prefers the juice of the tunas this way (100% natural color, by the way):

I pull the ripe dark purple fruits off our Englemann prickly pears (the big ones) with tongs and then shave off the fuzz stickers. I split them in half and mash them in a bowl with a pestle, then I strain the juice twice.

Then I add it to margaritas for my wife and her girlfriends (it takes very little of the tuna juice added to the lime juice, 100% agave and triple sec). We're having a party this weekend, and I have about a quart of the juice in the freezer from last weekend's harvest.

I enjoy trying new stuff but have never had prickly pear juice. Please give a description of what it tastes like.

I heard Gratuitous is a fine maker of revolvers.

Gratuitous Arms Co. S&W copies are much more faithful to real S&Ws than the Spanish guns. As to the taste of my cactus pear juice...I just went to get a reminder sip. I still can't explain it. It's like a form of a extra flavored watermelon taste only super dense, very sweet, and rich instead of watery like watermelon.
Erich, those drinks look fantastic!

I buy prickly pear syrup by the gallon from Phoenix. Put it on everything from ice cream to french toast and pancakes. Use it mostly in margaritas though.

4 oz of 100% Agave Tequila
3 oz Triple Sec
2 oz unconstituted limeade
2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
2 oz Prickly Pear Syrup (We Prefer Cahills)

All pulsed in a blender with crushed ice.

There is nothing quite like it!

Thanks for the compliment: they weren't bad, and I anticipate some happy partygoers this weekend.

Man, now that is a very good description of the taste: I'd never thought of comparing it to watermelon. I'd add that it tastes a little "green" to me - sweetness is in there, but it's certainly not overwhelming.

I edited in the sweetness like you said. It really needs no sugar added. Except for tequila or vodka, I don't think it needs anything added to it.
