Interested in advice for what optics to look into. I am not trying to spend hundreds of dollars. Very interested in red dots but wondering what's my best bang for the buck.

I wrote a review on the NcStar Green Laser. I don't recommend Chinese sights for defensive weapons, but you might find this an excellent value for a fun gun. I put one on my grandson's M&P 15-22 and he loves it (he has a red dot on the carbine too but has far more fun pointing it with the laser). Give my review a read and let me know what ya think.

Not to be rude, but read through the threads here. Asking which optic is the best is like asking us who our favorite hot actress is.

Figure out what matters most to you and what your goals are. Close quarters? Precision plunking? It's hard to recommend an optic until you share your goals. Plus, this topic has been covered to no end.

Asking might help him figure it out. Give him some leads to follow. I would also like to know what people like in a scope or red dot.

For an M&P 15-22 fun gun, no reason to spend anywhere near hundreds of dollars. You won't be using it as a defensive weapon, so it ain't a critical application. And 22LRs don't test the mettle of sights like the defensive calibers do, so ruggedness ain't much of an issue. By FAR your best bang for the buck, IMHO, read this review.

I would start at Amazon they have lots red dots & scopes for under $100, when you find one you like go to youtube & see it in action.
,
My self I was wondering if airsoft scopes would work on the 15-22 , has anyone tried them ?

With the minimal recoil, yes, airsoft optics have been proven to work just fine. Think about it...the airsoft guys bang their guns up far more than we do our 15-22s. That being said, it's worth the extra money to get you close to the $100 range vs spending only $30.

Again, OP, you need to let us know what your goals are and your application of your rifle is. Only then can we point you in any direction. You haven't even indicated if you want magnification or two-eye open.

Yes they do and they work great, but then you have to go for the higher priced Airsoft units. I was looking at a SUSAT knockoff that the shop guy waved me off of. He said he doesn't even sell it to guys wanting to put it on a GBB.

So far my 15-22 has had a knock off Aimpoint, a UTG projector and is now wearing a fixed zoom NC Star optic. The only scope I've had issue with? A budget real world firearm scope. Ran out of elevation in the turret :(

The Airsoft stuff holds zero, and works. The only problems are the limited battery life compared to an Aimpoint. But I can buy 10000 batteries for the price of an Aimpoint.

Thanks, I thing NC Star was one I was looking at. Mostly now just trying to trick it out for fun shooting with my grandson & we are about done with just the cheep red dot for $48 it has been great but now I am looking for something with 3 or 4 power that looks good & works. I found some Acog knock offs at amazon but they were sold out.
Any links would be great & thanks again :)
