There are a few Pawnshops around here that I occasionally check for Guns. I visited one Yesterday, and found a real nice S&W 66-3 with a 2.5 inch barrel. The Gun was marked $475.00, and looked hardly used. I couldn't get my Visa Card out fast enough. I did not even try to talk him down.

Damn! I wish we had pawn shops like that here in Massachusetts. The very few that we have aren't allowed to deal in firearms.

pawn shop find

pawn shops are the place I get most of my good stuff. it is the one shop where a lot of older guns wind up. it helps to be on good terms with the owner. I do a little gun repair for them in shop and keep their knives sharp.

Yea done real good! They have not been that cheap in gun shops around here for about two years.

It is always does me good to hear about a member getting a great deal.

Congrats!

Joe

Congrats! :)

Love snubby K-frames and even more at that price.

Wow, there are only two gun stores near me and one of them is a GM, but there are about ten pawn shops that sell guns.

Good job! Around my area, I don't really check the pawn shops because I have NEVER seen anything good. Enjoy your 66! Bob

Damn you skinny wallet damn you.......... I thought about pawn shopping today but the wallet is too limp. Nice catch

Great Purchase

New York also, I can recall back in the 60s when some pawn shops sold long guns but today I never see any kind of firearms in pawnshops. NYC goes out of its way to discourage any form of gun retailer in their domain.

Nipperdog:

Welcome to the Forum. Congratulations on a great buy on your Model 66-3. My Model 66-2 was my first S&W revolver. If you get a chance, assuming you don't already have one (or more) in your collection, try to get a 3.0 inch barreled K-frame. That 0.5 inch difference in barrel length can be fun and interesting.

Regards,

Dave

I had a 686 no dash 4" I was talked out of a few years ago and immediately regretted it. I was lucky enough to find a 686 no dash 6" in a pawn shop last year for $500. Talked him down to $442 out the door, and have been a fan of pawn shops ever since.

Thanks for all of the kind words. This Model 34-1 is another Pawn Shop find. Once the Seller started talking "Pinned and Recessed" I knew that I would pay dearly, and I did. I estimate that this Revolver is late 60s production. I have owned it for about 5yrs.

You stole it at that price. I haven't seen a 66 under $600 in a long time.

Nice snag! Considering I saw three 66 2.5s yesterday at the Reno show, with prices ranging from $850 - $1050, I say you done well! My last one (66-1 with Eagle SS grips) set me back $750 and I thought I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. :D
