Any one get the S&W 629 PC SS 8.375" barrel SKU170334 Review or comparison to SH?

I am narrowing down my first 44 mag revolver purchase and I always come back to the 629 Stealth hunter. After seeing that the stealth is the or one of the most expensive 44's that S&W makes I then look to something similar and less expensive and I find the 629 PC SS 8.75.

I have googled and youtubed all I can and the only video on the 629 sku 170334 is the one made from S&W.

Does anyone have this gun? What do you think? Looks to be a little more stout than some of the others; with the un-fluted barrel and it is about $220 less expensive.

I like the looks. Actually like the looks of the Stealth Hunter too, but think it would be barrel heavy and it is ported, which I would prefer to do without. Good choice.

I have the 629 stealth hunter and it does not have the ported barrel...great 44 mag.and shoots like a laser...its not cheap, but its excellent

Thanks for the videos I am actually looking for information on the other S&W 629 SKU 170334 (the pic in my first post) as it is about $220 less than the stealth. I love the stealth don't get me wrong.

Save your $200 NO NEED FOR UNFLUTED CYLINDER OR FULL LUG HEAVY BARREL[/QUOTE

Thanks for you input. I must have phrased my question unclearly so I apologize. The stainless steel unfluted barrel is $220 less expensive than the stealth hunter, so I am looking for reviews of the one in the picture in my first post.

I stopped into a LGS today and was much surprised to see the 629 pictured in the original post. I got to handle it and I thought it pointed and held very well. It felt lighter than it should. I couldn't try the double action but the SA was very light. Priced at full MSRP. Too much for me but seems like a dandy gun.

Old school - Model 29

I guess I'm old school. I purchased a 6-1/2" barrelled nickel Model 29-3 back in the '70's and shot IHMSA with it for about a decade until I got stationed overseas. My youngest son wanted it ever since he was a youngster, so I gave it to him as a college graduation present. I have a Dan Wesson Model 744 with both a 4" and a 6" barrel and think that is a perfect hunting gun, as well as super for IHMSA, which I have recently returned to. I still missed my 6-1/2" Model 29 though. Then a local gun shop began selling off the old/new guns the original owner had sequestered in his safe over the years. Lo and behold, he had a NIB 6-1/2" Model 29-2. I quickly purchased that gun and my love affair with the 6-1/2" Model 29 resumed. Guess my other son will get this one some day, but until then, I plan on enjoying it fully.

Hopefully, whichever version of the 629 you pick up will be as magical for you as my 6-1/2" Model 29 has been for me. They are superb guns - fun to shoot and wonderful to hunt with.

I feel bad that you will never know the joy of your first 29 being a simple blue 4 incher that commands respect against the web of your hand. Starting at the top of the ladder means you don't respect the ladder. In the past 30 years of being a "Dirty Harry" kinda guy, have accumulated 20 different variants of a mod 29/.44mags, from 3" unfluted to 10 5/8" silhouettes, I now have a Jim Clark "Game Master" and a mod 296 .44spl. A Closet Queen is just squandering a pay-check unless you intend to push 180 gr Sierras with a cup of H 110 just to hear tha "crack"-Bong! Just take a pic with your phone, save yourself a bunch of money......

In my experience most any S&W performance gun will shoot great. My primary 44 hunting gun is a stealth hunter w/ Leupold 2.5-8x scope. I use speer factory 270 gold dot soft point and sighted in at 100 yards. It will shoot amazingly accurate!

I have not shot the new fluted barrel 44 yet, but I have no doubt it will shoot just as well. Plus im a sucker for stainless. This is a gorgeous gun!

I think when it comes down to it buy whichever you like the look of better, I don't think you will be disappointed with either gun..

My philosophy.... When in doubt.. Buy both!!

S&W 629 PC SKU170334

I bought one this summer. It is a very nice gun and I was also looking at a Stealth Hunter

If I had to do it again I'd get the 44mag competitor model. The extra weight is good. I have the 357 mag competitor PC model
