I have a 11month old Belgium Malinois. We had them as are bomb dogs in the ARMY so I knew what they can do. She is my family protector. She is been trained in tracking also along with bite work!

This is Boo our Great Dane and Jed the rescue hound/pit bull(?) mix pup. They make a serious tandem for home protection. You can come in, but you really want (need) to be invited! I have no question they will defend us if it became an issue. Yet in a social setting, they are great and real sweethearts!:)

Here's my 16 year old Jack Russell Terrier..He does 'possum's too!!! :D :D :D

Is that possum really dead, or is he playing possum? Seriously.

My female Rottweiler, Annie, caught a possum one night last year. She trotted around the yard, carrying that poor ol' possum in her mouth. She was so proud, like she was the greatest huntress in the world. I heard my male, Beau, barking and went to see what was what...he was trying to take it away from her so he could play with it, too.

I called them both back inside, leaving the (apparently) dead possum in the yard. I just had a feeling. Sure enough, after about five or six minutes, he began to stir, then got up and tottered off, apparently none the worse for wear except for some teeth holes in his sides. I made a photo of him once he got safely back up on the fence.

As an afterthought, I've heard two theories about possums "playing possum". I've heard they actually do it on purpose as a defensive tactic. I've also heard that if they aren't killed immediately by a predator, the attack scares them so badly, they pass out from fright.

But here's a photo of the lucky little guy who survived that night. Bet he had a story to tell his possum buddies.

Annie and Beau

Annie and Beau are my Best Friends and constant companions. At 4.5 years of age, Annie is six months older than Beau.

No 'possum's were hurt during the shooting of that Pic!!! :D

He was most definitely playing 'possum! You can tell by how his neck is curled to protect his throat! I had walked outta my Manshed late one night to turn the house lights on for my wife who was due home from work when I spotted the 'possum under one of my wife's birdfeeders. I didn't want to fool with him and I knew Buster wouldn't hurt him so I hollered out: BUSTER!!! GIT HIM!!!!!!

Well Buster came busting outta the doggie door of my Manshed, saw where I was pointing and kicked in the afterburners!!! The 'possum had just enough time to bow up and hiss before Buster nailed him!! Buster weighs about 20lbs and you can tell by the pic the 'possum was about the same size which didn't stop the dog from grabbing the 'possum by the neck, yanking him clean off the ground, and shaking the living kaka outta him!! He turned him loose after about a second and the 'possum had had enough!! I took that pic about a minute or so after the Battle!! If you look close the dog is showing his front teeth and is actually smiling!!!!;)

I dumped the 'possum over the fence and we all lived Happily Ever After!!

Rottweiler's??? Lemme tell ya about Sinbad, Sebastian and the pig round-up sometime.... ;) :D

Love the story and Jack Russells, too. They are renowned for their varmit-terminating abilities (among other things). There was a program on the Smithsonian Channel showed a couple of Russells turned loose inside a big barn to get the rats out of the stored hay. Don't know how many rats there were, but it was a bunch...and I don't think any of them escaped. Those Jack Russells were having the time of their life.

Born To Protect and Please

This sweet looking face is deceptive, being trained in bite work this 60 LB Belgium Malonios mix would allow me the time to get out of bed, stretch, taker a gun from my locker, load 6 rounds, take a leak, and then go check on the condition of a trespasser. These dogs live to work and care for their masters and will become your best friend to boot. This mutt was left at a ASPCA. I consider myself very lucky.
