In light of the French terrorist attack......

A few years ago I recall a town down south passing a must carry ordinance -- and I believe crime dropped severely.

A few centuries ago here it was required that if you left your house you must carry an arm -- for protection against Indians. (I read this in an old edition of a history of Wayland/Sudbury Mass.)

As I recall it they were required to own a gun is all. And yes the crime did drop.

When you say mandatory carry you also include undesirables who cause the problems in the first place.
It would be very difficult to exclude a particular religious or ethnic group.
However if these unfortunate French people were carrying things may have been somewhat different.

According to the Washington Post, among other sources, your chances of being killed in a terrorist attack are 1 in 20,000,000. Your chances of being hit by lightning, somewhere around 1 in 1,000,000.

Just saying....

I actually don't think that means anything in this conversation.

But this would, "according to Bud, if everyone in America was armed, the chances of being killed in a terrorist attack or any other active shooter situation would be one in a megagazillion"

My point being, rather than taking the stance, "it's probably never going to happen" to me,I would rather take the stance of "Let's make sure it never happens" to anyone.

If you want to talk about things that will change how we own/carry guns here, let's talk about things that are here. Things like how ISIS has threatened to attack any member of the US Armed Forces. Or how on any day there are Muslim protests here in the US. Or how stupid policies prevent us from being able to protect ourselves.

Nothing that happens in France will help us overcome those things.

A friend of mine sent me that video. As true as text is. Seeing it creates an incredible feeling of doing whatever possible to prevent that. It was one of the first times lately I've wished my AR15 was next to me and felt the M&P40 at my side wasn't enough for anything.

What does anything that happened in France have to do with what we do here?

Only that many in the USA would like us to be more like Europe or France. Note the gun control laws are quite strong all over Europe. It didn't seem to stop bad guys getting fully automatic weapons. Such things will eventually happen hear at a mall, school or some none gun venue near you. Stay tuned.
As to mandatory carry, I like the thought but as noted, there are many that shouldn't, even if it is their right. I would have stronger qualification courses for CCW, not the pathetic courses currently offered. Basically if you can own it you can carry & that sets up things like the recent Idaho tragedy.

I'm an old man with a CCW permit and a .45 acp. I train (on occasion) with a retired police instructor at the range a couple times a year.

I don't think I could do much against Al Qaeda trained terrorists with full auto AK-47's.

I'd like to think I could, at best, take one with me but I don't think the average civilian would last long in a battle against soldiers in a combat operation.

I do sympathise with your point of good guys with guns can stop bad guys with guns. If nothing else, I draw and stand while my wife, kids or grandkids run the other way.

My thoughts exactly. Hopefully I hit em a few times to smack their body armor and distract them from my wife/kid running away. Like I said, that video made me want to not leave the house without my AR.

In the ISIS propaganda publications, that they are sending all over the world, they are telling recruits not to come to the fight, fight where you are.
Speaking of...their head excecutioner, the one often seen on tv, was found recently....separated from his head. No one know who or why but there was a note scribbled on the body. Something to the effect "this is evil" and a cigarette stuck in his mouth. ISIS consider cigarettes to be evil
