In TX, it's Plastic, like a Driver's License, with picture and other DL type info. No list of weapons.

Several new modifications to the Carry laws in the works here, including College Campus carry and Open Carry.

Wowsa ! I am amazed at Okla , having a classification for Derringers ! As a former derringer owner , I am filled with awe at the thought of someone being able to pass a Qualification course with one ! Even if you went downscale in cal for better control the idea of getting hits with the nonexistant sights and 10-20lb trigger pulls. And then all that rapid reloading on the clock with an upsidedown breakopen with that little funky extractor. And to get hits in vaguely the same direction , you'd probably have to single load to always use the same bbl.

Back in the day I had the chance to observe Jerry Barnhart and Cpl Jack Magruder shoot in competion , and my jaw dropped each time. But anyone who could qualify with a Derringer would truely be a Mystic Warrior of the Gun. They should be thusly qualified to carry an lesser mortal handgun.

As mentioned earlier, no license is required in Wyoming. But my wife & I have ours for when we travel to neighboring states.

It is plastic, and looks very much like the states driver license. No list of weapons...

My county in Va. is county issued, paper, no pic or weapons listed. Good for 5yrs.

Hope I don't spoil mainsails lunch . But in the land of fruits and nuts "California" it is controlled by local law enforcement agency. Most likely the sheriff either cheap rice paper or card always a list of guns you have qualifided with and I have never seen more than 3 allowed.
Since we can only buy one new handgun a month from a ever shrinking list of "safe approved handguns" big brother doesn't think you need anymore on your permit .
Just thankful that we have had some positive court decisions that has made getting a ccw possible . It may take along time I applied in may 2014 just got the call to pick it up .
Hope the rest of the country does not become California.

when I retired from police work I was issued a lifetime permit...I go each year and qualify with the dept.which gives me the same carry option as a sworn officer, meaning all 50 states

In Colorado at this time, county sheriffs issue permits, and they shall approve or deny (with cause) the application within 90 days. If the finger print results haven't come back within 90 days, they still have to issue the permit if the applicant meets the other criteria. You need to provide proof of an approved firearms class. For example, I believe NRA basic pistol is approved while Colorado hunter's safety is not. We do not have to list or qualify with our actual carry guns. The permit holder has to notify the sheriff before or immediately after changing address, especially if the new address is in a different county from which the permit was originally issued. There is also a provision for a 90-day emergency permit that does not require a class. I don't know any details on that one, paper, plastic, etc. Finally, I'm going by memory here, so if you have specific questions, according to the back of my permit you can look up CRS 18-12-203 to find the actual statute.

In PA, they are issued through the sheriff, as well. Allegheny County issues a laminated card with no listed weapons.

Back in the 70s and 80s they were thin paper and you were not suppose to laminate them (why?)....by the end of the 5 years they would almost fall apart at the folds

...I seem to recall having to list weapons when I first got mine in 78-83? (Somerset and Butler counties)

Exactly. Easy to mistake one for the other. When I got fingerprinted they took a new pic, but CHL showed up with the same pic as DL.

Just got my fingerprints done this week, and yes they took a new picture. The paper requirements/instructions state that the DL image will be used on the CHL. I guess I'll find out in a few weeks. Those in the know have gotten theirs in about 1-month here in Texas.

I have yet to understand why the Texas CHL has my driver's license number on it. If they're going to do that why issue two separate licenses? Modify my TDL to indicate that I have a CHL and issue that one once and be done with it. If I lose my CHL for any reason then just issue a new TDL. Nah....too complicated for government......

Texas/DPS might now be up to date enough to use one picture for both licenses but they didn't used to be - my TDL and CHL have different photographs but my Level III Firearms Instructors License has the same picture as my TDL. So it looks like they're getting their act together on computerized photos.

IMO, the DPS just wants to be able to seize your CHL without having to have to tow your vehicle when/if they do so. Too much work otherwise... ;)

In MASS, our license is similar to a drivers license....plastic, picture, name, address, birth date, license number, expire date and address. We do not have to list weapons on our LTC (license to carry). You apply with your hometown police department or the town you work if you are a business owner or LEO. It then gets mailed to a magical mystical bureaucratic office in Boston where they do the exact some background check your PD does then after they hold onto it for two to four months it gets mailed back to the PD for the Chief to sign off on. Towns with out a PD you apply through the State Police. When I was a kid it was a paper laminated FID for rifle/shotgun no picture and out of high school first LTC was paper with your own passport photos. Those days are long gone in MASS you need to be 21 for a LTC. Back then you could buy from a friend or relative of do a personal transfer.

In NY, it depends on the county you live in whether you get a plastic card or a paper one. On the paper permits, there is a place to put the guns you have on it. On the plastic ones, as you add to it ( at least in my county ) they give you an updated list of what you have on the permit. Also depending on county , you may or may not be issued a concealed carry permit ( generally depends on what the judge's opinion is as to whether he lets you carry...concealed only, no open carry ) .

In Georgia, it's a plastic laminated card, called a "GA Weapons License". Similar to a driver's license, has photo ID, name, address, sex, height, weight, DOB, eye color. date issued, expiration date (five years thereafter). Weapons are not listed.

In North Carolina, our licenses are issued by the sheriffs' offices in our county of residence, but are of course good throughout the state, even if we move. We renew every five years. Mine came laminated, but I live in a populous county with a sheriff's office that has plenty of resources. I don't know if all sheriffs' offices are able to do it this way; maybe some other Tar Heels can throw in on that.

Otherwise, they're plain vanilla. No pictures, and no list of weapons. Being a license holder does all me to purchase handguns without having to apply for a pistol permit every time, which is a nice benefit.

What he said.

Additionally, our DL number is our permit number. DL must be presented along with permit if engaging an LEO, since DL is the photo ID part...

Also for anyone interested, ours is called a "North Carolina Concealed Handgun License"...
