I carry a .380 in my pants front pocket (always) and typically will disassemble and clean it about every 2 weeks. Well, I let about 5 weeks get by me and took it apart last night. Geez, what a mess! There was lint balls shoved in every nook and cranny and it was drier than a maiden's tit. I'll never let it get like this again. How often do you all clean yours?

I do the same as I do with my motorcycle before I take it on the road. I check it, make sure everything is as it should be and safe to ride. When mecanical failure could get me killed, I take nothing for granted...I carry a J Frame mostly. I ALWAYS carry in a pocket holster or belt holster and NEVER loose in a pocket...So, pocket lint isn't an issue. When I take it off at the end of the day, I wipe it off, check the chambers and run a dry patch through them and a slightly lubed patch through the bore. Of course, it gets a thorough cleaning and lube after time at the range...I worked with guys who left their service weapons in the holster, loaded and never took them out. I worked with one investigator who carried a M-36 in a paddle holster. I checked out his revolver one day and the barrel had so much gunk in it that the bore looked like a .22...Keep it clean and properly lubed at all times, whatever that takes...Don't treat it like your keys or wallet.

I carry a J frame too and it gets wiped down at the end of each day w/a silicone cloth. A patch w/light oil is run down the chambers and bore each week. One J dates back to the early '60s, one to the early '90s and my Colt Cobra to 1968. Take care of them and they will take care of you.

I once went to a friend's house to buy his off duty gun. P&R 21/2 19 for 200. How could I go wrong.
Took him 20 minutes of trying to open the cylinder to finally get it to rotate at least. Then he started smacking the cylinder with a rubber mallet to try and open it. Pretty soon bang. There went his tv.
Not one bit of rust, just crud and Idk what binding it up. He carried it the day before that. Took me 2 weeks to clean it.

MUCH OF THIS PROBLEM COULD BE ALLEVIATED BY THE USE OF A QUALITY POCKET HOLSTER, 3dots…………...

After reading through this thread I'm still a little hung up by this thought... :p

I wipe down my carry gun every night, I field strip it once a week, clean and lubricate it. I clean it after I shoot it before I go to beddy bye. Too much time spent being taught how to maintain my firearms by my dad and then Uncle Sam. I can't imagine how I would feel if I needed a firearm for a social occasion and it wouldn't run because I didn't clean it or I did it in a sloppy manner.

A pocket holster should be used whenever carrying a gun in a pocket. However, the holster is not proof against lint. It will help reduce lint build up, but that stuff will still get in there.

I carry glocks. I clean them sometimes. Lint balls or not they shoot
I've helped a few Glock owners, who made this same statement, fix their guns when they wouldn't work properly due to dirt build up. I'm sure your Glock is not subject to this problem though.;)

Seriously, the OP has made a good point. I clean my carry gun every week whether I shoot it or not. (Yes, even the M&P and Glock.)

I also clean my 442 every time I shoot and I wipe it down daily. For me,by far it collects the most dirt and takes the toughest beating when it rides in my ankle holster.
