Cancelled backorders for Federal 22LR on MidwayUSA

I got a pleasant surprise today...a MidwayUSA backorder from 12/8/13. A 5000 round case of CCI MiniMags (0030) for $312.

MidwayUSA came thru at the original price; Thanks for not forgetting this order.

Pete

I'm happy for you, but I must admit I continue to be bugged at Midway. There word appears to be worthless. My backorders for a case each of MiniMag solids and hollowpoints were placed 11/19/13 and 11/21/13. They were both cancelled in December 2014. This is after Midway assured me in email that they weren't cancelling year-old backorders.

So I am of the opinion they're either dishonest or imcompetent. I hate to say that because Larry is a big proponent of the shooting sports. But your backorder was in line after mine and they honored yours while dumping mine. IMNHO, that's just not ethical of them.

Well that gives me hope for my orders... I have two backorders I made the first week of 2014 , so they just hit 13 months. 1 is a case of Remington Thunderbolts for like $220 (I hate this ammo but 5000 rounds for less than 5 cents a round has some value, even if not to shoot but for Survival & Preparedness storage and/or barter in the future.) and a case of Federal Gold Medal Match/Target HV for $400 (I had attempted to buy cases of Mini Mags and a case of CCI SV but they sold out as I was confirming with my father he'd split them with me... so i had to take the next best ammo they had, this Federal. At 8 cents a round it's about the same as a Mini Mag or CCI SV etc.).

Still no info other than the occasional "Your current backorders.... are still backordered...." email I get every few months.

Gotta love those e-mails

The header reads - Phil, Your current backorder...
And then I have to click on it to read more

The anticipation... Maybe this is it! :)
Then the let down... Date expected in stock: Unknown :(

Oh well... cheap thrill.:D

Well I just received my cancellation from Midway on my 12/26/13 case order of the mini-mags. Bummer. I knew the odds were slim, but I was hopeful.

My order 1/21/14 of m22 just went to the big fulfillment center in the clouds. Oh well.

Strangely, I just got a status update yesterday on my M22 and Federal champion backorders from over a year ago reminding me to keep my credit card up to date. Today I got another email on the same orders saying they have been cancelled. I'm not worried about the cancellation, and not surprised either. According to the cancellation notice Midway will no longer be offering the products in question.

Had a backorder cancelled yesterday for the 4000 rounds of AE 22LR. Body of the email says they no longer carry it. Then the line item says "backorder expired". They don't have the 4000 rounds listed in their site, just the 400 now. Probably call tomorrow just to see if I have any options.

"Thank you for your order. Unfortunately, we have not been able to get the following product from the vendor"

2 cases of Federal Champion 525's ordered Jan 24, 2014 *poof*

Well Larry, next time Midway sends me an email asking for my business I will send you a similar email, "Thank you for asking for my hard earned money. Unfortunately, my hand is unable to find my wallet in regards to doing business with you. "

Got the little note from midway while at camp meeting. Not unexpected. Have previously been happy w/ the way they handled orders, etc. Had heard of others who were less than pleased. Now understand their dissatisfaction. The explanation socalled offered by midway is not credible. It is no different than political speech, where a man says one thing and does another. Maybe larry was once a man to be trusted. Hopefully in his family relationships he still is. But, midway is not larry. He is nothing more than a spokesman. The company is no different than any other company, it'll say whatever it needs to say to sell whatever it is it wants/needs to sell. To expect integrity from midway or any other similar business is irrational. They are not in business to serve the public. They are in business to serve their owners. That is all that matters. It is no different than cheaper than dirt, etc.

When I get around to it, will send midway a letter. Very much doubt that will matter to them. My annual orders never ran more than maybe a few hundred dollars. However, will take those few hundred dollars and do business with other sellers. Will most certainly use available opportunities to share w/ others the issues I have with the way midway has handled this matter. Doubtless will not hurt midway. Fine. It's like voting. I'll vote for someone else. JMHO. Sincerely. brucev.

At least when I see ammo at WM and am first, I can actually buy it. But I have also had an order or two cancelled, so no surprise.

Brucey,

Very well said! Midway is not the Midway of old. They have outgrown their roots and IMHO, become a slave to the dollar. There is no... rather, little integrity in corporate America. As a company, they have lied to me on several occasions. While I doubt Larry himself would do that, his company minions have. Despite Larry's apparent personal integrity, I hold him solely responsible for the level to which Midway's has fallen - it's all on his watch. Only he can fix it, should he choose to. As for me, I am re-directing my hard-earned dollars to Graf's and Mid South.

They cancelled my order yesterday for a 4,000 round pack of Federal from 11/2013. I sent Larry a nasty-gram. They should at least offer some kind of replacement deal. 15 months is a long time to wait and then be disappointed! I was sure Midway would come through eventually so I didn't search or place other orders for the same or similar.

I got cancelled last night - 1 case of 5000 Remington Thunderbolts from 1/8/14 ... Sucks. I actually cannot stand Remington rimfire ammo, Thunderbolts more than most (as they suck AS MUCH as Golden Bullets but cost MORE and are supposed to be more premium...) but they were very much available to order and fairly reasonably priced. I still have a backorder for 5000 Federal Gold Medal Match HV RN 40 gr. for $400 but, we shall see right?

When I placed those two orders on 1/8/14, there was actually two other things I wanted... a 5000 pack or something like that of CCI Mini Mags 40gr RNs and a 5000 case of Federal American Eagle 32gr HPs .... for give or take the same prices I wound up spending on the two i ordered. When i got them into my cart, filled out my info, got my credit card entered, and hit the send order button, the Mini Mags sold out! Gold dig it!!! I went back and changed the expensive-case to the Federal Gold Medal Match HV and re-filled my info, re-do my CC, send order, and the gold diggin Federal American Eagle sold out!!!! You gotta be kidding me?!?! So I with absolutely no delay and making pure haste to get an order in, I did the Remington Thunderbolts and Federal GMM HV as my backorders. They were two best choices for 1 premium case and 1 fairly inexpensive case...

and after 13+ months, and being reassured 4 times (2 phone chats two internet chats) I would ABSOLUTELY AND COMPLETELY BE RECEIVING THIS AMMO, **provided my CC info would remain accurate and non-expired/non-declined ** .. I got one cancelled and I know the other one is just behind, surely.

MidwayUSA really lost my respect. And my dollars.

They cancelled my backorder of mini-mags and then showed them available (limit, 10 boxes of 100) less than 24 hrs later.

Larry, Midway, has lost all credibility and my future business.

ps I also sent an e-mail to the [email protected] address.

I ENCOURAGE EVERYONE ELSE TO DO THE SAME.

I was happy when I received my order of CCI Mini-Mags a couple of weeks ago; but in the past 3 days, MidwayUSA has cancelled: 2 Mini-Mags, 2 Win M22 & a bucket of Rem Golden Bullets. I'm not a happy camper any more...

Pete

Just got notified my 333 Winchester BO was cancelled. Will be interesting to see if they now become available on Midways' site... Just got some 333s from Gander.

Just sent off my e-mail. Likely will do no good, but was worth the effort to let them know that they have lost business for being dishonest. Like you, seeing the order be cancelled wasn't the issue. Seeing the same item for sale after being told they could not acquire the item from the vendor was insulting.

Midways' response:

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to contact us. As you might imagine, since we cancelled thousands of unfillable backorders for 22 Long Rifle Ammunition in the last few weeks, Larry has received a dramatic increase in email volume and can't possibly answer each one so he has enlisted my help to respond to customers. I assure you, this decision was not taken lightly. We knew that it would be wildly unpopular with our customers who had been waiting a year for product, but regrettably when this ammunition run first began we were caught flat footed. Before we realized the gravity of the situation, we had taken far more backorders than our allocations from the manufacturers would allow us to fill in a reasonable time frame. We stopped taking backorders, but kept the existing ones on the books (without payment from customers, of course) to see if the situation would improve. As you well know, it has not. As a result, we have decided to cancel all backorders per our policy once they become a year old because it became evident that old backorders were not going to be fulfilled in any reasonable or predictable time. It is important for MidwayUSA to respect the resources of its Customers and Stakeholders and not keep obligations in place beyond a timeframe that is reasonable. We are very sorry for this, and our inability to get enough product to satisfy our customers demand. Larry agonized over this decision, but we didn't see any other course of action based on the current supply compared to the demand for 22 Long Rifle. I am on Rimfire Central, AR-15.Com and the Smith and Wesson Forum mostly in my personal life. You are correct, we are getting roasted on the forums just like we knew we would. You can see we have been taking a beating over the last two years on 22 availability…but that does not change the fact I can't get enough 22 to cover the demand. Everyone is being treated the same way on this one, which is why no exceptions are being made. As a lifelong shooter, I certainly understand your position. When we first ran out of 22's Larry suspended the employee purchase program and cancelled our backorders because customers come first. At the time, I thought it was temporary. We could see the light at the end of the tunnel…now my friend, I don't see that light. I think it will be years before the industry can catch up because everyone is buying all the 22 they can whenever they can. If everyone would just take a breath and only buy what they need to shoot that month, the industry would catch up. I am getting more 22 ammo in than I have ever gotten in the history of the company! But as soon as you tell someone they can't have something, they have to have it. Guys that maybe fired 500 rounds a summer are sitting on 10,000 rounds and still buying whenever they see it. Until the demand settles, this crazy supply situation will continue. I am sorry we can't meet the orders. Believe me, if we had a way out other than this we would have taken it. I have worked for Larry for 19 years, and actually was a customer at the old gunshop that evolved into MidwayUSA before that. This is the first time I have felt we have failed our customers. And believe me, I don't like it. It won't happen again. We will never again get caught that flat footed and take that many backorders on a product without realistically evaluating how much product we will be able to obtain. I certainly wish I had better news, and am sorry we let you down.

On behalf of Larry, we are truly sorry for this,

What a bunch of nonsense.

Bottom line seems to be that those of us that believed them when they said they'd honor back orders are screwed. So if you don't have a cell phone app to receive their "notifications" the second they're released you're further screwed by their current business model.

Nice of them to cancel my BOs just in time to send out a notification the ammo I had on BO came in stock.

Larry and Midway can take a flying leap...
