What's your Defense Weapon of choice next to your bedside?
I use THE EVIL BLACK RIFLE and my M&P.45 :D

It varies, 1911, 19-3 in 4", pre 27 6.5", in the woods camping in the RV it is a 629 in 4".

Tonight is is an Astra constable 22 LR, you know the spanish Bond gun.

I hit a snake in the head last summer, I was afraid he had been in the RV which would have freaked my wife out. at 25 yards I hit him in the little head on the 3rd shot.

I've arrested a few 2 legged snakes. I guarantee their fat little heads are much larger and will be much closer.

I'll have an early warning, our female lab takes guard duty serious. If she hears folks in the yard she barks. The old paper boy came by at 2 AM, yep 2 AM, he stepped up on the porch to drop the paper under the mail box. She barked every time. IF some one knocks she barks. If some one walks up to my truck she barks. Ya know what, I like her.

The first line of defense and/or warning is three large dogs.

A Mossberg 500 ATP 12 gauge with a 20" barrel and 8 round capacity is behind the nightstand on my side of the bed. In a former life it was an Alabama State Patrol firearm.

686-3 w/6" barrel in my room; last line of defense my wife's room a new 637 PC that she's popped 300 rounds through since 12/26/14. It's a very nice little popper. Last weekend at the range I was shooting it and the guy/gal next to us asked if it was a 44 Mag and I said no it's a .38 w/+P but it feels like a 44 Mag!! They had a 9MM and .45 ACP Beretta and were mighty impressed with the lil' 637!

The same with my Vizsla. Anything is eye sight or foot steps. I'm like you, my early warning system is a dog with protective instincts.

My wife keeps her S&W 38 Special on her side of the bed. I keep my Mauser P08 on my side of the bed.

I am really jealous of all yalls "Advanced Biological Intrusion Detection Systems"... I wish I could talk Momma into a pup, but she is having none of it.... it is sad.... she don't know it yet, but a finely pedigreed lab is gonna follow me home one day :D :D
Wise move my man. Once she gets a look at that little lab puppy-it's stayin'. Trust me on this one-Angus was sleeping on the floor-all 13 pounds of him- when the wife and daughter came home and met him for the first time! Brought a tear to my eye.

I prefer a Slugger made in Louisville. Don't want to put a hole in my neighbor's house, we live close in my little slice of heaven.

I have 3 early warning systems (model K-9) that hear and see everything! Then I bring out the Smith & Wesson SW9VE 9mm with Hornady Critical Duty to protect them!
