Do I need to start stocking up on 5.56 ammo?

Its just another face in the multi faceted ammo shortage paradigm.....

It's either not being produced in favor of other products.

It's being bought up for resale on websites and at gunshows, with huge markups, due to the "perceived" shortages.

It's being bought up for hoarding by individuals who already have enough ammo to make the floorboards in their homes sag 2", who cannot walk by a box in a display case without buying all of it, yet complain about availability, while holding more ammo inventory than many PD's and National Guard Armories......

Some fellas should really start thinking about where the ammo is really going, because its not all going to DHS, or any other Government entity.....

Prudence dictates that a wise person stocks up on those commodities that could face a shortage given certain market/political/weather/health whims. These commodities include fuel, water, food, money, prescription medicines, and ammo/components, among others. The first "great primer shortage" I experienced was in 1993 right after Bill Clinton got elected. I vowed then to make sure I had all the ammo and components I'd ever need. Shortages don't bother me anymore. I don't hoard, I just keep a decent supply of everything I need.

Stock up on the ammo you would shoot, not what you think will go up. The Chinese steel core and Russian 5.45 steel core have never been something that you could sell for much after they were banned. The M855 is one of the worst loads ever made so I don't see people in the future wanting to pay higher prices for it. It's like beanie babies, the bottom will fall out.

I WOULD STOCK UP ON AMMO THAT YOU WILL SHOOT, AS wrhk33 STATES. DON'T HOARD AMMO TO RESELL, AND DON'T INTERUPT THE FLOW OF AMMO TO SHOOTERS OF CALIBERS THAT YOU DON'T REALLY NEED ON SPECULATION. IF YOU DO, THEN YOU BECOME PART OF THE PROBLEM…...

Are we talking 5.56 in general, or penetrator M855? I'm not seeing any dearth or 5.56 overall...

The initial run within hours was on M855 . The knowledge of the proposed regulations will spur demand for .223/5.56 generally , and fewer types of ammo will be available to meet said demand. So there will be some amount of spillover. Time will tell if a minor blip , or an all out .22lr type situation.

Locally here folks cleaned out any/all 5.56/.223 save for small boxes of specialty types due to a couple stories on national TV. Mostly low information types looking for any bulk ammo.

Heard the stories and Rush L talking about it yesterday..........

Mid afternoon was in local Walmart...walked back to sporting goods.

Over the past 6 months they had a pretty good/regular supply of .223/5.56 (no .22lr) ......yesterday no 5.56 but .223 hunting ammo (soft point/ballistic tip) was still on the shelves....$19.77/20

Admitting to grabbing 3 boxes for my CZ 527FS......LOL

just the 62gr AP...is what the BATF is talking about....seems all other is in good supply..at any rate i got 2 cases coming.... it jumped 30 dollars per case in 2 days after i ordered mine.....may happen , may not

Our effort might be better spent on joining, and having our friends joining the NRA,Second Amendment Foundation,or GOA, and getting politically active helping those who support the Constitution and Second Amendment, and riding herd on those who don't.
Just last year our last lead foundry was closed, and any future lead will have to be imported and could be banned. Then all lead containing bullets might be next.It is time to quit being loners and time to work together to protect our hobby and freedoms.
This is just the beginning .
