The 'unofficial' 58 Club

I guess I'll go ahead and add mine to the list.

S/N is S 295XXX range. I just got a few weeks ago. I've got a set of Arhens Modified Target grips for it Karmaed to me by a member, but I need to take a new picture of them on the gun. I don't care for the one I've got.

It's a good shooter. I've only had it out, and the load I was using is a bit hotter than what I want to settle with, so it had a pretty healthy recoil. No worse than a 44 magnum, but more than I want just for punching holes in a piece of paper.

That's in very nice shape.

There are sure some nice 58s here you fellows are showing. It's a gun I really like & very useful. I kind of like fixed sighted handguns & the 58 is a great gun for the mountains & fishing in the willows.
I'm staying tuned to see what & who else shows up.
Thanks.

CB...that is a nice 60s vintage 58...so where's the pics with it "properly" dressed....

Bob

Well, they're not for shooting, but I did find this set of bonded ivory ones pretty cheap. They're just for show.

I got it laying at a different angle on this side so the light is different.

I have the same grips and Tyler T-grip and have shot them on the 58 and have a round butt set for a 3" 657.... With full loads it is a handful but with a load of 8.0 grains of Unique with a 210 at 950 fps it is very manageable...

If you can find some try the C.O.P. ammo (Copper Only Projectiles)...they are 180 grain all copper HP and are only running 1050 fps from my guns...very pleasant to shoot and very reasonably priced... They will probably be in the 1100s from a 4"..

Wow every time I come back some nice guns have been added.
They are great guns for taking into the back country.

As I posted in another post more years ago than I care to think about I had made up my mind that if I were only allowed to own 1 S&W revolver IT would be a model 58 with the then fairly new Armaloy finish. Never did get there despite owning at least 3 blued 58's one of which was a very early first year S serial number and a couple Model 57's and even a Model 657 Mountain Gun.
Well two days ago a fellow put my IT gun up for sale or trade and it turned out that I had just what he needed for the trade. Brought it home yesterday and then to the range today. 1973 vintage, Armaloy, and old nite sight inserts and all.
Smooth as butter double action , crisp single action and one of the most accurate guns I have shot in a long time.
In the pics below the first 3 are of my beast and it's new ride an H.C. Leathers Threepersons rig.
The next picture is of the first 4 cylinders full. range was 15 yards and all shooting was offhand first 6 shots of each load were single action and the next 6 double action.
The center mass group was with an IDPA load supplied by the guy I traded with consisting of 6.5 grains of Trailboss behind a 215 cast SWC @ 800fps. I am responsible for the low shot. Second shot new gun and I loosened the grip just as it went bang.
The headshots were with my plinking loads from 2002 consisting of 6.5 grains of 231 behind a 215 cast SWC @920fps

My IT gun has found me after 30 + years.

I was just going over this thread and came across this post again....this has got to be the epitome of a 58...night sights and one of the toughest gun finishes made....

Hope you are still enjoying this gun...

A couple for the file

Lots of very nice 58s here, so I thought I'd add mine.

The first photo is weak, but the second & third are better.

s42n8-albums-pair-m58s-picture13275-model-58-blue.jpeg

The shot of the blue one does not do it justice -- I need to work on my photo-fu some more.

s42n8-albums-pair-m58s-picture13278-model-58-nickel2.jpg

The nickel, however, is jes about right.

The Blue is an S serial (S2968XX); the nickel an N serial (N2608XX). Both were sold as ANIB, and are safe queens for now.

He he My Wife asked me what I wanted for my Birthday. I said a 195gr SWC bullet mould & a Lyman .410 sizing die.......
Now we'll see hopefully I'll be casting my own!!!!
Oh just to keep this 58 orented, the .41 cal bullet will work quite well in a 58!

My 58 loves the Lee 195gr SWC under a dose of Unique. Only thing I hate about it is mine is a single cavity mold

The 195gr double cavity is the very one I asked for. If it throws bullets as well as the 158gr .357 SWC mould I have I'll order another & rotate them casting, that way they don't over heat.
Thanks.

There is a cosigned blue M58 at a LGS I visited today with a trigger shoe, about 75% finish, and aftermarket wood stocks for $495. Good Deal or not?

If I didn't have the one I just bought, I'd take it, (assuming it checks out mechanically) if I wanted one. They just don't turn up that often around here.

I paid more for the one I've got.

Pretty much any functioning N frame is worth $500 around my parts....a Model 58 for $500 would not be there very long (unless really abused and in extra poor condition)

If you don't get it, post up a link to the store....someone here will be on it like white on rice (maybe even me ;) )

Very, very nice. Now go out and shoot one of them. Or not.
