Rastoff's Challenge- Dropping the Gauntlet

BAM-BAM: Do Rastoff's challenge and post photos. I'm the worst shot of the lot, and I have photos to prove it. :-)

Will try to "make" some range time this week...... decided it's something I really need to start doing again.........for my own well being.....

For the record the IDPA "A" zone is an 8" circle........so at 7-8 yds it's not "the Challenge" by any stretch

I enjoyed the read B-B, especially the part about the Browning HP..... :)

He said to his buddies "I thought he might be a ringer when he chose my Browning HP over the Glocks and S&W M&Ps on the table".
I would have said the same thing. It's hard to appreciate the true value of the BHP until you've shot one. It doesn't have that modern "tactical" look that the Glocks and M&Ps do. But, it's a better gun in almost every way (too many parts though).

I look forward to your target.

I'll be 62 in November....while I carry mostly 3913/14s or 6906s.... factory ASPs....and I like Beretta 92s when no one else around the "Burgh" seems to........

Between first reading about HPs in the books about " Serpico" in the 70s(?)...... 13 rds in a auto WOW!!!!!

...... seeing it as the carry gun of the British SAS and the FBI's HRT.... and

how Austin Behlert , Novak, Cylinder and Slide and others have customized them......

....... to me the Browning HP is "The" tactical 9mm..... IMHO.

I have 2 Mark IIIs..... mostly stock..... Spegel grips and the "Practical"'s white ramp front sights.......one is "bright blue" and a safe queen... the other shoots more from it Ciener .22 conversion upper...... than 9mm.

Funny side story...... when I said I'd "try" the HP....... they had pre-loaded mags ready for the guns....... all but the HP..... we were 2-2 1/2 hours into the "open house"

Another day, another attempt, (18 attempts to date, actually) another fail. Gonna have to do some reloading pretty soon. I am running out of ammo. See post #258 for a sample target. A friend that shoots in a Bulls-Eye League was with me today. He gave it a try with my gun, I thought he would clean it!! He didn't fair any better than I did. 5 shots out of bounds.

Perhaps tomorrow. Sigh.

"I shoot well enough to defend myself." OK, I'm calling you out. I said it, I DON'T THINK YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I know you can't beat me, but can you even come close? PROVE IT!!! (There might be a prize involved. ;) )

I meant to mention this in my last post.

I didn't think I could beat you, but that I at least could shoot the target clean.

After 20 (yeah, twenty) attempts, I have to throw in the towel.

I bow to you, The Master, Rastoff.

(It was a hell of a lot of fun though) But I think I do shoot well enough to defend me and my loved ones.

P.S. You have some King Size gonads to put this challenge on the 'net in the manner that you chose. I admire that. IMHO, you were asking for a flaming, yet nobody did. Nice bunch of guys and gals here. Bravo, sir.

I think it was (and is) just a good natured challenge to get duffers like me to the range and shoot. Not many people responded, but I did, knowing I couldn't beat you young whipper snappers. I shot it 2 times, only once cold as he requested. That was the photo I posted. I improved a lot, and will continue to do so if I continue to shoot.

I just ordered a steel 66% IPSC target. Going to do the other challenge on that for fun, when I can get my boy out with me to run the timer on my phone. :)

That one will take practice. Which timer app are you using?

IPSC timer from Google PlayStore until I can get myself a real timer. Actually, maybe I'll order one up right now.

Glad I wasn't shooting the challenge yesterday as the young lady in the next lane kept hitting my target. She was shooting at the target we are using for the challenge at 5yds and maybe hitting it once out of every mag she shot. Think she hit mine more. Don

The Pocket Pro II has a beep. It's quite loud and I don't know anyone that has trouble hearing it.

Congrats on the steel. I want a couple of those too, but they ain't cheap.
Okay, thank you. Going to order it. The target I ordered had free shipping, and I have to make my own stand for it. The one with the stand was like double the price plus shipping. [emoji51]

LOL Magload!!

Well.....
I didn't EXACTLY follow the protocol for this challenge, but let me explain....

I took my brand new, unfired 340 M&P out for a break in today, and thought I'd give "the challenge" a whirl.

I first fired 5 rounds of 38 158gr from 5 yds, slow fire, not as part of the "challenge" but just to familiarize myself with the revolver.

Next, I figured that, since the j-frame only holds 5 rounds, I would alter the challenge a bit.

Instead of the 4-6-6-4 from 3yds/5/7/10......
I fired 5 rounds each at 3 yds/5/7/10.

This resulted in a total of 20 rounds (same as the challenge) but felt better, due to not having to empty a cylinder/load again, just to shoot finish the string of 6 rounds. Make sense?

So, I guess I didn't exactly take the "challenge" as it was laid out, but.....I had fun.

How'd I do?

My groupings max spead was 3.5" by 3 inches.
I fired the entire 20 rounds using 38+P JHP 125gr ammo from Remington.

I'll get better, and will take the "challenge" with my Colt 1911, which was off to the gunsmith today, getting a new front sight and thumb safety installed.

Forgive the lame pics, but I just installed Windows 10......and lost my pics that I took while at the range!!

So, I took some crappy pics from my basement, using my defensive flashlight as my light source!
