Am I reading this correctly? You have eighteen 3" 66-2s?
Is this a collection of "serial numbers" or actual firearms?

I've got 3; two from the late 80s (-4s) and one from the 1st decade of the 21st century (-3)....
I paid $325 for the last one..... marked " S&W Model 66" .....shop sold it as a 21/2".........
There are a h--- of a lot of folks out there that have no idea that 3" 66s even exist........they just get lumped with the "snubbies"..... sometimes a sharp eye and a quick wallet grab will net you a....... real find......
I think the consensus is that there are about 5000 of these gems out there.......-2 -3 and -4........
There are some good threads here on the 3" 66s...... like the 681 they were introduced as the world and police depts were moving to the "Wonder 9s"........ if they had come out in the 70s like the other 66s; my guess is there would be hundreds of thousands vs. the few we have.
My first two; according to the story, had sat on a Distributor's shelf for over a year..........with the internals polished they were $270 out the door......... or about $210 for the gun.

Guys I have a 3 inch but mine is a 66-3 SN BBN6XXX. I don't think it is a Ashland Gun. I bought it ten years ago. Does it have any collector interest?
I think all the "short run" 3" 66s attract a lot of interest.......
My 3 inch -4 Model 66 Serial # is: BRR----
........... per the SCS&W it would be post 94 and pre -5 which were 1998

My -2 has an ALH prefix... bought new in 86. Just felt right. It was a rebound gun... I bought it on the rebound when I broke up with my then GF... she wouldn't sell the 3"13 (I bought for her) back to me so I consoled myself with the 3"66.

I just collect the s/n's. The ones with the three letter prefix. I haven't counted them lately, maybe 2,300 by now. What I do is buy vintage guns in a box, just so I can see the end label. Then I throw the gun and box away and keep the s/n for my collection.

You can get so much more in your safe doing it the "Kernel's" way.......I've got 3 he's got 2300.....................
