How safe do you feel anywhere now?

As a well-known dude said:
"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Daily life is full of risks, and while I'm reasonably alert, I don't feel unsafe. Statistically, life is getting safer all the time, and if you make me think about specific dangers, drunk drivers worry me a lot more than a microscopically small number of Jihadi lunatics.

If you worry about terrorism, that does not mean you're paranoid, but it does mean that in a way, you are letting the terrorists win, because fear is what it's all about.

THEY are coming, in fact THEY are already here based on recent reports.
Paranoid? Yeah, I probably am.
Who is coming, who is already here? How is it more unsafenow than ever? Do you have studies or stats to back this up?

I CC so obviously I do have a concern. Am I worried, not really but I think you do have to be aware that a problem can occur and be ready to deal with it. Common sense in most cases will keep you out of trouble. I don't do things differently today than I did 10 years ago.

I feel fine either way. For the 1st 21 years of my life I never carried a gun. Sure you probably can't count the first dozen years or so cause you're dependent on your parents but by the time I was 18 I was going to different places and still no gun. Even when I turned 21 I didn't always carry.

Today I still live in the same general area in SE Pa which borders NJ. Being that close to NJ means that sometimes I go there to shop (rarely and for specific items). I also have to go there sometimes for my work. I have friends that live in NJ and reletives that live in NYC. I don't feel unsafe at all

Being a gambler at heart, I know the odds are in my favor. There are many times (work) where I am unable to be armed. I feel as safe as is possible. I live away from "prime targets" (NYC, DC etc) to increase my odds. Joe

Went to a Pirates game with the family last week.........

No guns, no weapons, metal detectors and searches at the gates.........large crowds waiting to get in (30,000 IIRC) to see the Cubs, or just mingling on the closed off streets.........all the security and Pittsburgh PD were inside the gates.....

a fair number of folks passing by on their way home from work...... with backpacks and briefcases....... on two sides cars/trucks passing by 50 ft from the gates...........

What a great target........ boston bomber or a couple of gunmen.

Would me having a gun make a difference..... not really.... did the "increased security" make me any safer...... not really. It just shifted the target location....... from inside PNC Park to the streets outside.

I live out in the boonies on a large lake. Other than a few summer weekends we have more deer than people up here:D and most year around people know each other.

With that said I’m so far from LEO help assuming I could call that am well prepared for things that go bump in the middle of the night. I have mentioned house weapons in other posts!

Just to go out and about, to the general store or a little further I carry a small .380 in a pocket holster.

Due to the problems of the cities that are close to a 40 mile ride to the nearest I carry a XPs45 and know my way around to duck the worst parts of the cities if at all possible!

So I guess to answer the OPs question I feel as safe as a careful person can feel in this new enlightened country I now live in. (A far different country than I was born into in the mid-40s!

I could WALK to the police station in around twenty minutes. That changes NOTHING.

If I'm not willing and able to protect MYSELF, the odds are overwhelming that if I'm in danger from the threat or use of unlawful deadly force, I'm not going to get protected AT ALL.

I don't want my murder investigated. If it should happen, I want my self-defense shooting investigated. I carry a gun so that somebody ELSE ends up getting a chalk outline drawn around himself.

When I go out I am not afraid, but I have been taking more precautions than I did twenty years ago. With the warnings from the FBI Director, and what happened in Tenn., and other places I have changed my carrying habits.

I have CCd since 1971, and have always carried a Colt Cobra, J frame, or 1911. Now, I regularly have been carrying a Glock 19 for its increased capacity.

I have a moat. I live near the U.S./Mexican border. Murder, kidnapping, car jacking are uncommon north (or east) of the border near me. South of the line, a very different scenario exists. Part of my job is to deal with that scenario, being aware of those threats and dealing with them.
I feel safe because I am aware of threats and take appropriate action to deal with them. (I have carried concealed and /or openly for 35 years)
Realistically my surroundings are more dangerous than twenty years ago, specifically where I work.

My area is quite safe, always has been. I keep loaded house guns by every door for critters. It's the way I was raised. I think the tweakers who live around here probably go in to Sedona to break into houses, or something. I don't know where the house keys are, but the truck keys are in the ignition.
If I felt like I needed to be armed 24/7 I reckon I'd move someplace else.

I live about 50 miles outside NYC in one of if not the safest county in NYS, I carry when and wherever possible, not that I have to. but I want to. Having family members in LE gives me a little more incite to more of the happenings around me. Our sheriff has the understanding that Deputies can not be everywhere at the same time.. "Where is that cop car when you need one"

  1. I'm sure that doctor in Connecticut thought he lived in a "safe" neighborhood... until two animals showed up to slaughter his family.
  2. If I decide that my neighborhood is no longer "safe", where am I going to move where danger can't find me? Mars?

If there are five cops worth of active crimes and three cops available, somebody's going to have a bad day.

Of course that assumes that the assailants of the "lucky" three even ALLOW them to call the police.

I've had 911 put me on hold. My Browning Hi Power has NEVER done that.

Yes, straight from the FBI directors mouth, for one. That's just the terrorist connection.
Then there's the murders and rapes by illegals allowed to remain in country. They're on the nightly news.
So, if you really haven't heard these facts or studies yet I guess you're not following current events and news very closely.

We just had a shooting, an attempted rape and a murder by one here not long ago. And as I recall, at least some of them took place in a park, one of the favorite places for the gun control cult to try to make off limits to guns.
