I was told that I am part of the problem with guns

I have been dealing with some people that no matter what you say they are right and you are wrong. Now that I have my CHL, I have been slowly but surely learning where I can and can't carry. How to carry, who should know and who shouldn't.
Well one of these type people has told me that I am stupid for carrying my gun into the movie theater when we go. They said that I am too paranoid, and will cause more harm than help if I should have to use my weapon.
Also told that if I am paranoid enough that I can't leave my house without carrying, then I should stay home.
In my years past, I have been mugged, beaten, and been stolen from. I am 46 years old and took all of this without carrying a weapon.
I guess I should just keep it locked up in the safe, and hope that the police is close by when I need them. SMH.

I am glad, that I was able to get my CHL, and wish I had of done it sooner.

I am getting the hang of watching for the signs on the doors. So far most of the places I visit are good. Cotton Patch restaurant is good, the movie theater for now, but they are considering it.

I too have had some very bad things happen over my lifetime. That's not why I carry. In an uncertain world if something very bad happens, I would like to have an option other than DRT. Pure and simple. If nothing else, having a pistol lessens the chances of being in an orange pajama while some masked rat saws off my head with a rusty knife. Joe

I am learning that too. He was around when a friend and I were talking about the latest shooting. And was just so anxious to let me know how he felt.

The friend I was talking to was asking me about where I took my class at, and he was in the same room.

Most non gun owners.... "no concealed carry" folk ....... think we are going to be all Jason Bourne,Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Bruce Willis, Rambo....... doing 20yd head shots across a crowded theater ..........

I'm 61 and have concealed carried for 36 years .......

in a movie theater with my wife or family.....I doubt my range of engagement would be much beyond 3 yds........OK.... maybe only two yards........

life ain't a movie..............

He isn't really a friend just a friend of a friend. I don't like him.

I don't either...

There's so many opinions even among friends. For me...it's not up for discussion, I carry and very few know that I carry. It's something I don't want to advertise. Much of the time, I forget it's on me. I carry a M337 w/ CT most of the time on an ankle holster. The rest of the time, Kimber Ultra Carry II w/CT, IWB. I love that one, but a little heavier.

My response to people like this is to ask them if they have ever been held up at gunpoint. When you have had that happen enough you to come to realize that you won't always be able to rely on Luck and a "considerate robber". for protection. The simple fact is there are bad people out there who will shoot you simply because you are a witness to a robbery.

Your friends!

You know as time goes by I am more careful who I let know that I carry. If I'm asked if I normally carry I usually answer "only if I have cloths on" and while that is actually true they usually just let it go.

I have had antigun people that did a 180 once a scare in their life happened. They want me to arm them but I send them to a shop and an instructor. One point that I used to make in my CHL classes is that at the moment of truth it's usually to late to get ready to defend your self.

You did good getting your permit and with time you will ignore the anti's.

Just tell him that people like him that think they know it all are particularly annoying to those of use that do.:D

Sounds as though you, as I do, have a number of "liberal" friends.

I have "liberal" friends, worked with some and have less formal relationships with others. Some of them would try to "out" me whenever they could. I worked with a woman who, like me, carried a gun as part of our duties. She had openly said she would not shoot anyone with hers, which nearly cost her the employment.

I spent a lot of effort developing strategies to deal with them. For those friends who demanded I not carry on their property, I made sure to always leave my gun in my vehicle.

One key thing I started doing was always always always doing the same thing when asked if I was about to carry onto the private property of an anti. Also if we were about to enter a place that prohibited self-defense.

That is to always return to my vehicle whether I'm carrying or not, and spend a minute as though I am disarming and securing the gun. Then, I never ever answer "yes" or "no" to being asked by them whether I'm carrying. One woman who had attempted to "out" me over and over again, finally stopped after we were in a place that allowed self-defense, and served liquor. She was certain that if I didn't drink, I would be carrying. I simply stood there and let her go on until she noticed she had the attention of a lot of people in the restaurant, and that they were just staring at her as though she was nuts. I then also had a calm chat with her about how fruitless her efforts had been and how it was going to cost us our relationship if she did not stop. She stopped.

Mainly, just don't answer the questions about carrying. Don't argue, either. You won't change anyone's mind and you'll just set yourself up for more arguments. I just say there is no point to the discussion and that we should all stop it and get on with whatever we were gathering for.
Generally works for me.

BTW, I put liberal in quotes because they are not Liberals. I remind them Thomas Jefferson was a bomb-throwing Liberal. They are leftists and fascists.

I don't blame you. I don't like him, and we haven't even met.

I think we can all agree on that point.

When I instruct a CHL or other shooting class what I tell my students, if they hear such foolishness, is to use one of the following as a reply:

A gun is like an insurance policy. You never want to use it but you're glad it's there if the need arises.

Do you keep a fire extinguisher in your house?

The only alternative is to just ignore the idiot. HE is part of the problem.

I have started doing my routine different. Before the CHL, when I would get ready to leave, I would do my PKW check. Phone keys wallet. Now it's PKWP phone keys wallet pistol.
