I really like a gun show because of the many options that MAY be available. Today, I sold my 3", 36 no dash. J frames are not my thing. I made a few dollars over my investment.
I did not know they existed, but a clean (686 matte blue) was up for grabs. It was 6". I have a 686, 6" stainless, so I did not bother. Have a 586 4" too.
Saw a 13-1, (I currently have no K frame .357 guns) It was not clean enough, or anything special. Priced at $475.
I looked at 13-2 more than once. Dealer selling, $475 firm OTD, transferred.
Now the story goes that original owner was notorious for firing a few rounds, and putting them away. Got rid of boxes too for it and others. The dealer got it with a box of Specials with some missing. Could have been the only box. Did I forget to mention, it is mine!
13-2, P&R, 5D088xx. ( should be pre 80)
What do you think? Bob

nice buy, that what i want for my next revolver.my LGS has one in a little worse condition than yours for $700. guess ill have to keep looking

Very nice gun! I've had good luck in the past at gun shows, trading a 1911 I didn't want for a K-38, a Model 10, and some cash. But lately, gun shows have not been as exciting. I can find better deals on-line.

Bananaman -

If you don't mind me asking, which gun show? I am in Dayton and try to do most of the gun shows around. OGCA is next week, one can find almost everything, but prices are crazy. I'm out at several gun stores today but could not find anything interesting.

t
Thanks,

The 686 is in the Midnight Black finish, didn't make them for very long. Missed getting a four inch a few years ago, still wish I would have grabbed it!

Very, VERY nice Model 13. Congratulations. I bought a -3 a few weeks ago. You paid less.

I enjoy going to gun shows just to look around. Never know what you might find. It's the hunt that I enjoy.

I was looking at some Smiths on GB. Went to show with the intention of buying a Smith revolver or a 1911. Before I sold my 36, found a S&W 1911. Clean gun and price was right. After 36 was gone, so was the 1911. Oh well!
Ended up with the 13. For me also, it is about the hunt! BUT, sometimes there is nothing of interest to find! Bob

App. 1550 produced in midnight black
Product code 104250.
Probably a 686-3
Missed one at Tulsa show a few years back.

Is there any special value, due to low production? It was either $600, or $650. It was in good condition, but not an attractive Smith in my opinion. Bob

Based on the serial# is there anyone that can get me close to a ship time frame? Thanks, Bob

I like gun show too. Even if the prices are high or there's not much on the tables, there's usually at least a few interesting items worth discussing. I usually go with my dad so at the very least the company is good and as he nears 80 any excuse to do something with him we both like makes it worthwhile.

I think that 13-2 is a beauty and I would've had a hard time passing it up too. It should date to 1979.

1979: 4D0001 - 6D10000

I didn't really care for the black finish either. That goes back to when first introduced and hasn't changed today.
I think the low production numbers and somewhat scarce availability enhances price these days. I don't see them for sale very often but I may be overlooking them too. The one I saw for sale at Tulsa a while back was $600 and in clean shooter grade condition. It was 4" and came with period correct box (no docs) but wasn't the original box.
ETA:
The seller back then didn't know what he had. He thought it was a refinished (matte) mismarked M586.
The $600 price may not have been outta line. Clean condition 686's are fetching good money it seems like, let alone one in midnight black finish. If had been 4", I'd say buy it.
