Anyone ever loose a Gun

I've found guns in my safe ( mod. 28 6 inch for one example ) that I didn't know I had and have know idea where and when I got it.....bad part is there are a few others I have the same problem with....it's a good problem to have tho,not complaining.

An elderly gent I used to know took a vacation to a Midwest state, Kansas, I think. Stashed his Model 60 in the nightstand drawer of the hotel room he and his wife stayed. Left the next morning, leaving the Smith in the drawer. A couple days later, he realized his screw-up and called the hotel and was told that local Chief of Police had his gun now. Called the Chief and explained the situation and believe it or not, the COP kindly mailed the gun back to my friend. This happened about 20 yrs ago.

Nope. At all times I can tell you with 100% accuracy where every firearm is and in what condition it is stored. Heck, I can even tell the order of the guns that are in the safes.

I DID loose a pen recently. It was a good writer too... really ticked me off.

I "put one up " when I went on vacation. Forgot about doing it, couldn't find it a few months later. Thought it stolen and reported it ....just in case.
Cleaing out the closet , I "found it", I swear I didn't remember putting it there, then the Oh Yeah moment.....when I went on vacation.....great hiding place.
Called police and unreported it....they said it happens more than you think.
I lost it...but it was lost in my house all along. You won't get in trouble for reporting a stolen gun found.

Exact same thing happened to me, but after reporting it missing I got the typical arrogant response from the cop about how careless I was and now there is another gun on the street that could be used on him, of course it was left in the closet. Now that is was found the streets are safe again.

Many years ago a freind that was tha Swat Sniper in the City we worked for took his Sniper Rifle on a Canoe Trip. You guest it. He dumped the Canoe and lost the Rifle. He didn't get fired but the Trip cost him a lot of money. He also got a lot of strange decorations hung on his locker at the Station.

It sounds like most of missing guns in the cases of responsible gun owners are, indeed, misplaced. We own enough and stash them away in hidden hideaways that we simply forgot where it was put in the first place. I heard that half of the food squirrels put away for winter they put into cache's they forget forever.

And that's nuts.

An older friend of mine lost a small 9mm that was my EDC at the time. I left it with him for an odd reason (too odd to detail here) and he misplaced it. This went on for months before I asked him politely to pay me for the weapon, which he did. Of course...a couple weeks later he found it wedged in the back of his secretary desk. He never did find the spare magazine.

I almost left my FIL's Ruger Redhawk .41 Mag in the woods. I took it out shooting w/o said FIL and, well, tall grass and a black hard case aren't real good together. We searched for about ten minutes and finally found it.

"Everybody that is over 40 is subject to this happening."

Years or belt inches? :)
I'm going to start writing down where I "put things up " It has gotten to the point that I spend more time looking for them than shooting. I have lost track of my prized model 58, it's in the house I just can't remember where....getting old is a pain !

It was on the local News a while back, Gun at High School. Seams Dad was a Hunter. He came home, unloaded the Gear from his car and left a Hand Gun on the back of the Car. I think it was his Doughter that drove the Car to School. People saw the Car in the Lot with a Gun on the back. From what I remember the School was locked down until they figured out what happened.

I lost a beater mod 15 for about a year when I was in college. I tore through my safe, my whole apartment, and my truck and finally gave it up as stolen. Had a bunch of buddy's in my Bronco one night and lo and behold one if them is digging around in one of the backseat armrests that lift up to a storage compartment and out comes the smith still in a gun rug. I had forgotten there was a cubby hole there. Felt like a real moron but was damn glad to have it back. I have no idea how or why it got stuffed in there.
