Concealed Carrier Robbed of Weapon

Carrying a BUG helps in addition to having good SA and being competent in firearm retention. As you realize you've failed in SA and you are loosing the tug of war for the sidearm, go ahead and draw your BUG and perform 'the indicated response' to such a deadly force encounter before he fully gathers his wits after he 'won' the tug of war. His victory will then be a short lived and very hollow one after you deploy the BUG.

Having a gun...

It happened at a southern Oregon Walmart, the following is from the Medford Police:
Concealed Handgun License Holder Assaulted and Robbed of his Handgun.

A 25 year old male entered the South Walmart last night while lawfully carrying his Springfield XD 40 caliber handgun, in a holster, in the back of his waistband. He walked into the bathroom where he was followed by the suspect.

The suspect tried to grab the victim's handgun, but was not successful. The suspect then punched the victim, knocking him to the ground, and forcefully took the handgun. The suspect pointed the gun at the victim and ordered him out of the restroom.

The suspect is seen on video running out the emergency exit where he meets up with the second suspect, before fleeing in a dark colored sedan (no further description).
I'll spare you the photos of the suspects. This makes me think about using a stall for #1 in public restrooms, location of weapon, and of course concealed means concealed. Nobody should know. Then there is situational awareness, training, etc.

This guy learned the hard way.

Yer right. Having a gun doesn't help if you get it taken away from you.:(

That's the magic word......

Which isn't the point. No matter how you choose to carry, it is your responsibility to protect that firearm from such things.

.

When you have a child, your responsibilities change drastically. Like the saying, "Anybody can HAVE a baby, but raising it is a different thing altogether". Same with a gun. Anybody can GET one but the responsibility skyrockets when you have to use it to take care of you, your family and the gun itself. People want the feeling of being armed without even thinking about the responsibilities that go with it.

To the OP. Thanks, this has been educational and not something everybody thinks about. Being disarmed when you are disadvantaged and not in a position to defend yourself.

I suspect that there may be more to the story than reported...

You know, words exchanged, threats made, possibly someone alluding to a gun, maybe a verbal exchange in the parking lot that security cameras didn't catch, something along those lines.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I cant believe we are now diacussing using bathroom stalls and not urinals.

If you try to take my gun, my assumption is that it's not to shoot the Nationals at Camp Perry, but to shoot me.

That being the case, I'll be trying to do with my fists, feet, elbows and knees, what I'll eventually do with the gun when I can create some separation between us.

These punks do not sound like the kind of professional who could identify a gun from the shape of a bulge under a garment, so that "partially concealed under a shirt" must have been pretty partial. Unfortunately, but probably unavoidably, carrying gives some people a sense of invincibility as they believe that just the fact that they have the gun will vanquish evil-doers; they forget how many cops are assaulted every day, many by unarmed people, even though cops have more than just a gun. As this guy found out the hard way, the hardware is just the beginning of self-defense; he's lucky he didn't get shot with his own gun.

Not quite sure what happened in the bathroom. Says the victim was punched in the face, im wondering if he willingly gavr up the gun or a tussel ensued and the attacker gained control of the gun.

Here's an exercise: I'll call the assault and robbery victim "the individual" and I'll call the attacker "threat".

Just with what we have seen from the security photo (physical size of threat and personal appearance), let's pretend the individual has a backup gun. The threat has taken the individuals EDC by force.
The individual is on the floor of the mens room. He draws his backup gun. Does he then:
(A) shoot for center mass
(B)shoot twice for center mass and once for head
(C)order the threat to "drop the weapon"

If you're going to open carry you got to be tough enough to keep it. Nuff said
Not just that. A lot of people open carry for the wrong reasons. They think a visible gun is a deterrent. I've had this argument with many people. There is nothing wrong with OC but to do it because it tells the bad guys to stay away is irresponsible. One must realize that there are bigger, badder, meaner people who do have the balls and the means to take it from you

That man doesnt look that sketchy. He looks like a typical kentuckian, where do you live? Do people wear ties and suits in your town?
Kentuckians are RAIDERS fans? I'm callin' BS on that one.

Take a joke cow.

And yes, we ALL wear suits and ties where I live. At our funeral anyways.

In serious reply to your question: the fact is, our victim took your attitude. What happened to him?
