lament on old age.

I can’t stand the heat at all anymore! When I cut my grass nowadays I cut fit about 5-7 minutes then have to get in my truck with the A/C going full blast for about 5 minutes to cool off. Takes a long, long time to get the grass cut, but I don’t have anything but time. My neighbors are even used to seeing me do this routine now. I used to be able to cut all the grass, weed eat, and blow off the concrete in an hour. Now it takes me a couple of days. The young don’t have the patience to get old!👍😀

I got lucky in the gene pool, parents lived 201 years combined. 75 on 11/22/25. I play Pickleball and highly recommend it for health. I played for 2 hours cooling off with ice water and a small towel between games. Lots of injuries over a lifetime, getting out of bed in the morning feels like my lower back is set in concrete. Doctor told me I would be in pain for the rest of my life at 42 due to nasty car wreck (almost decapitated) at 37. Got a new doctor, an inversion table and an air mattress. Manual labor, most of my adult life, took it's toll but sustained exercise seems to have helped.
Moved to a condo March 3, 2022, so no yard work but still like to help the wife in the house. Not hurting right now so I will keep moving and enjoying the time I have left. Built two houses in my 50's then sold them for tax free cap gains which are sitting in the credit union for interest income. No house or car payments for the 32 of the 35 years we have been married. Makes saving a breeze. I can afford to get most anything I want, but not much I need anymore. New car got 65,5 MPG last tank, should last me until I quit driving.

I am 80. I just got upper dentures. That is not a fun thing. I still have fair vision, work on the forge once in a while. Make muzzle loading rifles, and shoot modern guns every other week or so. I thank God for what I have. I try to walk about 5 miles a day. This time of the year in SC that means early or late walking or slowly melting.
I have it easy and know it and am grateful. I say a prayer for my friends who have harder challenges.
And if it rains when I want to walk I just go right ahead; nobody can see your tears when it is raining and I still miss my wife

I am at the age, now, where I need to take a few rest, while mowing with the gas mower,
to catch my wind.
I know that work or exercise is good for you at my age but it needs to be gentle to this old body.

I'm 82, and in the last year or two I really notice the negative changes of aging. But complaining about it will not suddenly make me young again. I've lost two close old friends within the past year, so I remind myself that things could be a lot worse. Just last night I had dinner with a friend that I used to work with, whose Dad is a year younger than I am. He said his Dad was increasingly showing confusion, and was totally inactive whereas he used to be a real outdoors person. My friend was amazed that I still walk my dogs daily for about an hour doing a 2.5 mile route. So I guess I should remind myself that things are still pretty good. I attribute two things to my doing pretty well: the dog walking daily, and that I still ride a motorcycle keeping my outlook young, even if I now ride 3 wheels instead of 2.

Try to make new friends with people old enough to be your children, then look in the mirror in the early morning. Sometimes we forget our age...and why we are at the fridge.
