Is there a chance that someone may break into my home someday?

Check.

Is there a chance that this could happen while I am in the bathroom?

Check.

Until recently, no, I did not bring my weapon into the bathroom while showering. But then my son's father-in-law was murdered in his own kitchen. He was standing, looking out the window when an intruder shot him in the back of the head. Still unknown if the suspect followed him in or was already waiting in the house. ( Suspect was shot and killed by deputies
2 weeks later by the way. )

Anyway, my weapon goes with me EVERYWHERE now, including the bathroom. Even at waterparks it is ziplocked and in a fanny pack. When I say everywhere I mean everywhere!!!!

wrkerr, I am sorry for your daughter in law's family, your family and all affected by this terrible tragedy. The pain and loss will never go away but I am glad they got the suspect as that brings closure and a maybe a feeling of justice. You just can't make sense out of something so senseless.

A family member that was very close and dear to me was shot and killed while camping by a complete stranger. Two decades later, that hole in my heart feels just the same. I always felt that if he had been packing, his life might have been saved.

Thank you for the kind words. As my son put it. "We will get past this... we will never get over it." It's the first time in my life that I actually hoped for someone's death. It provides some closure, but I hope someday the Lord will forgive me for such thoughts.

And the victim was packing at the time. He just never saw it coming.

Our good Lord forgives what comes naturally. You would have to be superhuman to not have any hate or desire for justice.

Unfortunately it is a reminder that we can try to protect ourselves and loved ones as much as we can but nothing is 100%. Life is uncertain and unpredictable. Live, love, and laugh as much as you can and try to not take things for granted.

My childhood friends dad had pistols and rifles stashed all over his house out in the country (and I mean all over). Went to guest bathroom one time looking for toilet paper, found a Springfield 45 acp instead.

This guy had them under couches, in kitchen cabinets, in his grandfather clock, in dirty laundry baskets, in his lawn mowing boots by the back door, and he had 2 safes completely full.

Long story short... He didn't need protection while he was in the home. He needed protection while he wasn't.
His house was robbed 2 times while he was gone and both times guess what was taken - his firearms.

I have one firearm out and accessible by me at home. The rest are in my safe.

showering

I certainly do; well maybe not:p If I understand your question, I wouldn't touch the answer with a "ten-foot-pole" !!:D:D

The only gun I'd take with me to the shower would be a fouled black powder weapon. I like to multi-task!

And its not irrational? I guaranty (sic) over 60% of the US wod (sic) agree it irrational. Thanks for adding evidence to my case!

Opinion polls are not evidence for any "case."

When traveling alone, I usually take a J-frame not only into the bathroom but into the shower. That's why God invented zip-lock baggies. If no one else is home and my wife has taken the dog with her, I might consider doing the same thing.

I am not paranoid; I'm careful.

Hmmm, I know I can not be totally prepared all the time. Sometimes I have to count on others to watch over me. My Son lives on the same property I do. He owns and sells Rottweilers. His 4 current dogs have the run of the place. The little one weighs 100 pounds. You know those dogs that look really mean but are friendly? Well, these are not those dogs.

You seriously take a gun in a ziplock bag into the shower with you??
