9mm Major PF Build Thread

Does the M&P9L have the same dovetail cuts as the standard M&P? Looks different in comparison to the Core/Pro Dovetails. Looking to get one, I'd love to have some Truglo TFX on it though.

The rear sight on a Core is farther back on the slide, the sights on any of the non Core pistols have the same dovetail since they all use a common slide. Don't know if the dimensions of the dovetail on the Core is the same as the non Core models.

Amazing job but but that drilling the frame scared me am I am fearless. My 9mm CORE will be here this week but o am using a Mako mount. I have a Storm-Lake barrel and ordered the wrong one for my CORE 40 it wasn't the 9mm to 40 conversion but the one for the 9mm. Well after running 300 rounds through it I could send it beck so bought a new gun to put it in.
Great job on your gun.

That was my initial feeling as well, but looking at the pistol where the drilling occurred, it's forward of the trigger block and there's really nothing structural up there. I think one could cut that whole thing off and the only result would be that the recoil spring would be visible but everything would still function normally.

I think people tend to forget that the main structure of the M&P pistol is the metal that's embedded into the polymer.

The part I drilled into is forward of that imbedded part. I don't think it's a structural part, more cosmetic than anything. (keeps the recoil spring from hanging up on your holster. :D

What pound recoil spring did you end up using? I got a 13 from Carver and it straighten out most of my FTEs but not all depending of the load I was shooting. Think I should have gotten a 11#. I just took the comp off and put it on my Ruger Charger. Not needed but looks cool. I will but a Carver comp later I live about 25 miles from their shop.

That is one cool gun, nice job. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would post mine.

I use a 15# spring, but I'm shooting major power factor. This thing won't even cycle minor ammo with a 11# spring. I've probably got around 1000 rounds through this now, subtract the 200 rounds I used to dial in the powder charge, that's 800 rounds with zero problems. It actually recoils less than my ported core shooting minor loads. Shot my first match (with this pistol) last week, did OK, finished 5th overall, and I'm still recovering from my hip replacement in January.

Nice shooting with your new pistol. My comp wasn't a Carver not even as nice as theirs, and being a Storm-Lake the comp didn't index against the front of the slide. About a half inch off but it still look cool. Well at least IMHO.

I think Carver has KKM make special threaded barrels for him, he said that a standard KKM threaded barrel won't allow the comp to come back flush to the slide so I bought my barrel from him when I bought the comp. I had to wait a few weeks for the barrel because he was out and waiting for KKM to make his order and ship them to him. I liked working with Bobby Carver (and Steave at SJC), there were a couple of problems with parts and they handled it well.

You must work out with weights to be able to hold that thing up for any length of time. Looks like it weighs a ton. Nice looking comp gun though. Appreciate the photos.
I'm using my Pro for IDPA only, so I've only done a few internals, sights and mag release, but had fun doing it.

Looks are deceiving, this pistol weighs half of a typical (STI) open division gun. The comments from the other shooters in my division is "Wow, that thing is light". Add to the fact that the actual time holding the gun up is relatively short, most of the time is running between shooting positions. ;)

So my curiosity was stimulated by the last couple of posts. Figured I should actually weigh them, Left is my Core (no mag) Center is my 9 Major, and on the right is a full 28 round 9mm magazine. The readout is in ounces to 2 places.:D

Holy snikees

Wow. Very bold and impressive project. I had to register to comment. Great and inspiring work.

I just started shooting USPSA and Steel Challenge with an M&P9L Core (shooting limited) and I'm absolutely loving it. The gun just hits targets without me having to concentrate too hard on the sights. I want to pick up a M&P 22 (practice and steel challenge) and a 9C as a stocker for everyday carry & defense now.

I am going to stay limited for a while because I don't have a reloading setup yet, but now you've got me wondering about this kinda setup over the CORE/Deltapoint combo.

How are you liking that frame mounted C-more versus your CORE w/ Deltapoint?

The only time I've shot the Core this year was when I was waiting for parts for the open gun. (snapped the trigger pivot pin and the CMore mount was moving around while I was shooting ). There really is no comparison between the Deltapoint and the CMore in my mind. There is a reason why over 90% of Open division shooters in USPSA use a Cmore. Nothing wrong with the DP, the Cmore is just faster and easier for me. My wife likes shooting the Core though. ;)

Great project; I'm guessing you shoot at WCAN? I shoot WCA TNPL "down south". I'm tempted to come up to your match just to see it some day.

Every Tuesday night (except tonight). On weekends I normally limit myself to the Puyallup to Custer corridor.
