This is a major issue now. The all out newly politizied gun control promise is a reality. I have never seen it this bad.
I hope those of us that never thought it could happen here in the USA see the worst assualt on our rights unfolding.
I will do my best to stay within the Forum guidelines .
We are now labeled terrorists by the Brady bunch. Thats official.
According to our former Secretary of State the NRA is the #1 threat facing the United States.
The Joyce Foundation, The President served on its Board of Directors, has tossed in 40 million into the push for more attacks on freedom, again calling the NRA, terrorists.
Just today in my home state of NH Mrs Clinton elaborated on her big push, using Australia as her blueprint for gun laws in no uncertain terms. And stated the Supreme Court is wrong in their descision to uphold individual right to Keep and Bear Arms.
I hope enough of our voices can be heard in any civil way in letters to local papers and local and state and Federal level.
It is now past the time that we take it for granted that it cant happen here.
I hope we can preserve our freedom and our dignity,for being labeled a terrorist is too much of an insult to not speak up.
I hope we all can stand together. This election cycle is going to be the biggest, nastiest challenge, we as peaceful freedom loving Americans, have ever faced.
Again, I hope my thoughts are within the guidelines for posting.

I think you're absolutely correct.

I'd spell out the way I think it'll happen, but there are those who'd tell me to take off my tin foil hat. I'll go so far as to say that I think anyone who clings to the 2A will eventually be
labeled "domestic terrorists", and if anyone thinks that isn't a possibility, they need to pull their heads out of the sand.

I will say this: I came into this world a free man, and I'll leave the same way!

It's scary... equally as scary is how so many can't understand what she's saying. She's calling for confiscation without using the words.

Many gun owers who lean toward her way of thinking assume it won't hurt them because they only own hunting rifles.....

All in response to an audience members question, "can we take away all handguns in one year, the way Australia did?"

And back in the '30s I'm guessing there were people who laughed at the idea of banning certain firearms, imposing heavy taxes on certain firearms, and requiring dealers to record names and addresses. In the late '80s - '90s, ban "assault weapons" and "high capacity" magazines? Won't happen. And after the AWB expired, I remember guys singing about how it failed and would never be attempted again.....

There's a difference between being paranoid and not becoming complacent.

I might agree on the sky thing but the 2A is written on paper and NOT stone. Where it needs to be written is in the hearts of every citizen who values the freedoms that made and make this country so great. But words can be rewritten and reinterpreted if the "majority" of the population so wills it.

Folks should be much more concerned with local and state elections, as those are able to erode our rights in a much more immediate fashion.

Vigilance at all levels is wisdom and take nothing for granted. But quite frankly that starts first in the family. Teaching our kids the values that we hold near and dear and that is where we have had a problem for quite some time.

But that is just my opinion and for now I have the right to that too.

Everyone seems to have forgotten Prohibition. They did something no one believed could be done. It lasted over 20 years. Yes, it was a disaster, but it passed.

It was made illegal to own / keep gold coins. It eventually ended, but at the time, it passed. I know, not an Amendment, but it had impact for decades.

You show me 30 states willing to change the Constitution, and I'll start worrying about a repeal of the 2A.

California and NY voted their rights away. Others may follow suit, if local elections are ignored in a manufactured panic over the upcoming Presidential election.

Not at all. They are comments based on conversations with my older great aunts and uncles of things that happened to them in their lifetimes. They were always amazed that the will of the majority could be overcome by well organized minorities (in the political/social sense). We have had instances of this for the life of the country.

It should be harder now, with the availability of information, but that seems balanced out by the mass of unproven and intentionally distorted information.

Bottom line is we need to speak out.. Never Happen is going to lead to bad things happening.
Pearl Harbor...never will happen. It did because we didnt have enough Billy Mitchells.
My whole point is to get active. Complacency will cost us all freedom and security.
Remember this: We have to pass the bill , so we can see what is in it.

As was stated by another poster, while we shouldn't completely ignore the Presidential election, we should also keep the Seperation of Powers in mind as we focus on the State and Local elections as well.

Actually, Absalom...you're wrong. The 18th Amendement was a Constitutional Amendement. One can't really say Prohibition of alcohol is unlike/ unrelated to the prohibition of anything else.
The "interpretation" by the SCOTUS is what will bring about draconian restriction of firearms, and the new appointees will be in the Highest Court.

Now anyone may want to defend their favorite party, by saying "they don't mean it", but the court can do what they feel is correct, and the SCOTUS has acted according to public "feelings" more than once.

All that said, my home state has indeed supported the right to keep and bear.
Another nation, to our south, also has a Constitution which guarentees the right to own and use firearms. The courts there along with the federal government, have rendered that "guarenteed right" almost non existant.

My anology is correct. Doubting the unthinkable never has prevented it.
When referred to as a terrorist for exercising my 2nd Amendment rights, I tend to think it`s time to speak out, strongly. I did take an oath. Same one our elected officials took.
If we let our guard down and lose this freedom, what next?

In the first comment, you are correct. Gold and alcohol are not directly related to the 2nd Amendment.

The process of taking away something from the people, as was done in those situations, has EVERYTHING to do with the 2nd Amendment. Rights taken are gone, no matter what they were. The fact that they were not originally guaranteed did not prevent them from being taken. Where did the framers of the constitution ever show fear of alcohol or gold possession?

Your second comment is also correct.

I simply use those situations that I know of to demonstrate that the populace can be parted from their rights by the voters who show up on election day (be they local, state, or national).

Do you only look one way when crossing the street? The dangers the 2nd Amendment faces can, and likely will, come from the most obscure quarters. But you must evaluate a distraction to know if it is one.
