Western Pennsylvania ...... "The Burgh" is not a bad place to live......

no earthquakes, mud slides, Forest fires, hurricanes......... few tornadoes.... the only flooding is if you are within the narrow flood plains along streams and rivers.....maybe 2 "heavy" snowstorms a year which are cleaned up or gone in 2-3 days..... an ice storm every 2-3 years.....again impact is 24-48hrs............few days of 90 degrees plus..... fewer days below zero......

That said we could use a few more sunny days.........a bit muggy time to time in the summer....... but not like the deep south ......... we have AC ....... and even better we have the mountains and forests to retreat to.........I've got a big oak tree next to the cabin that always has a nice breeze blowing by............................and in the evening we are still allowed to sit around a nice outdoor fire pit in the summer or have a wood burning fire place Oct to April........

There are lots of reasons "The Burgh" has been named the most livable city more than once...... plus we got the Steelers Pens and Pirates.......

MAYBE IT SEEMS THAT WAY TO YOU.

Plenty of people are retiring & moving to Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, in the east & other Northern states out west & central. If I should outlive the wife I'm going someplace with low humidity, a mountain view and a change of seasons.

I'm working on my wife to head back up to Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky when we give it up. We now live in a property tax supported state and I want to stop writing that enormous check every year. Let the income earners support me :)

I really like the area and the fact that there is so much withing a 4-5 hour drive. Winters are mild enough and the seasons are determinable :)

That may be the case back East, but here on the West coast, it's the opposite: that seems to be the direction everybody is retiring.
Darn tootin' and Spokane was recently named the best place in the NW to retire.

I'm gettin' on towards the end of my workin' career, and God willing, I ain't goin' NOWHERE.

Let me know when you do.

First half barrel is on me.

Tennessee and Kentucky, best of both worlds. Great fishing and hunting in both states, four temperate seasons, varied terrain, and Kentucky was recently rated the fifth most gun-friendly state in the Union.

Contrary to Hollywood mythology we do wear shoes; and people like Ernie Brown, the Turtle Man, use hillbilly schtick to give yankees a lot of yocks and a false sense of superiority. :D

Say what you will about -35 F, It keeps the riff-raff away!!!

Yep...it is a proven fact that rodents {ratticus ghettoicus rodentia} cannot stand the cold. Seriously though, it is a shame because there is so much in Florida and Texas that I really like and would love to live there, but, that 98 degrees seven o'clock in the morning 9 months a year kills it for me!!!!!
It does cool all the way down to 92 the other three months.
