Many companies offer free meals, free services and extra discounts to Vets on Veterans Day. As a veteran I don't have a problem with that although I think, that for some of them, it's more of an advertising/ marketing ploy. Call me cynical if you will.
I would like to see these businesses show their appreciation by taking gifts to a VA hospital or a meal to a shut-in or disabled Vet. By giving a hot meal to a homeless Vet or making a donation to a veteran's foundation. Even better, give a Vet a job and if you employ Vets, give them the day off with pay. Why are government offices closed while Vets still have to work? It's ridiculous that non-Vets get the day off on Veterans Day.
