My town is about 10 miles west of the Chesapeake Bay. We have had very heavy snow, and resultant damage, but thankfully, not much wind. The coast is another story. Ocean City, Maryland and other coastal towns have suffered heavy beach erosion, flooding, and wind damage. Some of the photos folks are posting on Facebook are terrible...:(

Thanks, I don't shovel snow. I run the snow blower and Wanda shovels. Some days it does suck when you get to do it over and over again during the storm. Oh and then plow comes by and you get to shovel out the driveway all over again because they pushed the snow back into the drive way.

Hay in that second picture she is resting, you have to man up and crack the whip, I bought my wife one of those shovels, she didn't like it, I thought it would be good for her back and she could stay out longer. :D
 
I haven't had to deal with snow since 1971 when stationed in Chicago. I would handle it like we do for hurricanes. Stay home, put everything on hold, have food, and water stockpiled, be prepared with candles and good books, in the belief that "this too shall pass."
 
Sadly 9 deaths are being reported due to this storm and its still very early in the storm .. winds and thus power outages are still to come ..

NYC Police writing tickets to those not complying to the closed road directive .. according to the TV news ..

A friend of mine has a condo in Stone Harbor NJ, lucky for him it's on the 10th floor. The touristy area near the beach is under water more than a mile inland.

Just saw your pics of Bethany, we walked that boardwalk a few years back when returning from OC. Terrible

Back in from shoveling, again. Calling it a night from that ordeal. Sitting with my wife in front of the fireplace and having a bourbon. Time to go surfing for guns.

Looks like about 3 inches for us around Boston.
I'll go out around midnight and clean up the small amount.

Have to do my next door neighbors car, driveway, walk etc.
He did mine last time, I hate payback.:cool:
Fellow Nam vet in not so good shape, he will call me not to thank me but to bust em, he is a year younger than me and calls me "Old Man":eek:

You folks in Boston got more than your share last winter...glad you're being spared this one.

It has finally stopped snowing here. I haven't measured it, but it looks like about 30" outside. Fox News just announced that JFK Airport in New York has recorded 27" of snow from this storm. And on the downside, there have been 17 deaths attributed to it. :(

I love winter, and I love snow...but this one has been no fun, and I am glad it's coming to an end.

That is a lot of snow you people in Maryland have received in just one storm.

But hopefully everyone affected will get through it as we always somehow do.

Last year it seemed like I was outside shoveling snow everyday for about 2 weeks. The biggest problem you end with is, where do I put it all.:(

One day I went out with a bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed and a shot glass, had no problems dispersing it. Sort of gave everyone a little incentive to get their snow removal done.;)

Stay safe and remember, slow is the way to go.;)
 
Ok, Ok, I realize it's bad, really bad for you folks, and I DO WISH ALL OF YOU AFFECTED BY THE SNOW STORM, PLEASE DON"T OVER DO IT SHOVELING OUT IF YOU HAVE TO .......

But on the brighter side of things...I'll bet you don't have to swat any mosquitoes.

The snow ended a couple of hours ago, and it set a record for a single snow event for this area: 29.2 inches, as measured at Baltimore-Washington International Airport. In my town some distance to the northeast of Baltimore, it looks like we got a bit more than the official total. Blowing snow has drifted waist-high in the streets in my development...

The mayors of Baltimore and Annapolis have declared Phase III emergencies in their respective cities, which means no traffic permitted except for emergency vehicles.

(This was necessary because of the reckless and stupid behavior of some citizens, who figured their driving skills were up to the task, and who ended up stuck or crashed. Four-wheel-drive vehicles were a particular problem, as some idiots who own them went out to play in the snow and got stuck.)

Various state and local government officials in my region are being very blunt about this situation, and have stated in news interviews that residential streets in various communities might not be plowed out until the middle of this coming week. All those folks who stripped store shelves of bread, milk, and bathroom tissue suddenly don't look so dumb after all... :)
 
The snowing has come to an end. Woke up this morning and my neighbor used is snow blower on by driveway, sidewalk and the very end of the driveway where the plow leaves its residual snow. Hats off to him, all he asked for was some gasoline and I had that. Now to dig out one car that was left on the street , that is completely buried. My neighbor thinks by June that car will be dug out. I am sure schools will be canceled the next two days, as the roads are very snow packed, buses covered in snow and freezing temperatures. I have a flight out of DCA tomorrow evening, not looking forward to that as the airport was closed yesterday & today, so everyone will be there tomorrow. Good luck to everyone else. PS: Still could use Wanda's help.
 
Blizzard update...

Well, here we are, 4 days after the blizzard, and the dust -- so to speak -- is still settling.

This was an all-time record snowfall for this area. In Baltimore, 29+ inches of snow fell, in my town to the northeast, it was 37 inches.

48 people died due to the storm.

Commuting is a nightmare. The multi-lane roads have been plowed, but only one lane is open on many of them. Snow removal continues, using plows, front-end loaders, and dump trucks, but the big problem is: Where do you put all this snow? In my county alone, there are over 1000 miles of roadway, and over 1200 cul-de-sacs in residential developments...getting those cleared will take several more days. Temperatures are rising slightly above freezing during the day, but then falling into the teens at night, so many roads are icing after dark.

Schools are closed, of course. Mailboxes are buried, so there is no curbside mail delivery. Trash pickup? No way.

The mass transit systems in Baltimore and Washington -- subways, light rails, and busses -- are finally operational again. Without them, commerce in both cities is virtually paralyzed.

There have been a number of roof collapses in this area, due to the weight of the snow. One woman was seriously injured when her porch roof collapsed while she was standing under it.

Overall, mid-Atlantic residents are handling the situation with patience and good humor, and our public officials are doing a very good job of handling the situation.
