Texas Open Carry...Update

In an attempt to cure myself from clicking on any more of these open carry threads, I'm going to buy a parrot and teach him to say "Open carry! Open carry! Open carry!" over and over again.

I may even teach him to run the computer and buy him a membership in this forum, call him Watchparrot or something, let him start his own threads.

Well, here in Nevada, I OC and CC everyday all over the place, No one says a word and I know I have protection.

Businesses can display all the signs they want......

My family and I, along with our money will shop elsewhere.

Businesses/Corporations are not interested in the safety of shopping/shoppers...
They just think about the bottom line of their account books.

Everyone that carries concealed by way of a CHL has had a through
back ground check and are not criminals. Open carry, same rules, same laws.

I jest don't see what all the fuss is about...But then again,
some folks jest gotta get their knickers all in a wad over something, I guess. ;)

I find it annoying that priests and pastors don't trust the parishioners they've been ministering too forever. Do they know something they can't share with us?

The sign posting is a way the gun haters can express themselves since they lost the legislative battle. They're angry and lashing out....I would guess in large cities.

We had this in Iowa when we went shall issue in 2010. Businesses who wanted to avoid annoying any of their customers just kept quiet and it blew over when the streets didn't run red. One supermarket chain posted no guns and went bankrupt a few yrs. later. I think HEB is too strong to worry about going under.

My "City" (Sun City Texas that is) has wording in the 'rules' that prohibit carrying of firearms (in any manner) in "Common Areas"

Does that mean public areas? Like parks and such?

^^^what he said is true from what I see in DFW. I attended mass at my religious service of choice and was informed that the Diocese in Ft. Worth had instituted a ban on conceal carry and open carry and had cited the state regulations. I view this as over reactionary measures and uncalled for at this junction. BTW - I have not seen one open carry. Just a bunch of common sense folks.

I have never seen a Church in Texas with a 30.06 or a 30.07 sign. If I find one, i will find somewhere else to attend or to send my donation to. As for the medical offices, if its a medicare office and they post a sign i will find a new doctor. I have no choice when I use the VA Medical system, but since I pay a copay I won't patronize any doctor that has a 30.06 sign.
There are a few places in Texas where there have been mass
shootings in Churches. The Churches where I live have any
number of people with gun permits and who carry in Church.

Unfortunately I'm seeing more and more places posting the 30.06 and 30.07 signs over the last month. Apparently these same places never had a problem with Concealed Carry for the past 21 years but the new Open Carry law coming in it caused the businesses to have to think about it and of course over react. Such a shame.

The same thing happened in Mississippi when we went to open carry. :(

Shortly after the Texas open carry law went into effect, a Dallas TV station had a news feature about an active shooter training session at local business. The first "victim" shot by the trainer who played the role of the active shooter, was open-carrying. The trainer said he always shoots the open carry guy first. Maybe most Texans don't want to be that guy.

I've been looking also...not a single OC. It's just folks using common sense that's all.

Whew that's good cause we all know that there would be a rash of OC'ers shot and robbed..at least that's what the silly ninnies tell us

LOL that's the one where the only one in the room with a face mask was the guy with the gun...hmmm
Idiotic demonstration ...it's amazing what people will buy into when it fits their view

"They" use quite general terms regarding common areas. And yes, common areas seem to include any and all land/buildings other than privately owned property. (not so sure about the city streets)

I have purposely chosen to not look too deeply into this whole issue as too much knowledge may prohibit one using the 'ignorance' excuse! They don't post! I didn't know! (I choose take their not posting as a positive move on their part--and don't forget, we are a bunch of old people, and some of us feel that we have aged past the unchallenged acceptance of the "rules" (look both ways before crossing the street here--what speed limit??).

.

Restaurants the same, the legal no gun sign means i get to
do the patriotic thing and shop at some foreign owned business.
I have zero loyalty or feeling for any business that exposes me
to danger of a gun free zone. I also encourage others to find
alternative places to shop. I am sure they don't care but neither
do I.

Neither do I.....

I do have a duty to protect my family while we are out and about shopping or dinning.

So no 'gun free zones' for me and mine.

As that gal that spoke out about her dreadful experience at Luby's
that terrible afternoon..."I'd rather have a felony hanging over my head and have my family alive..."

It's a choice we all have to make sometimes, to be on guard or maybe in the obituaries.

I have my concealed carry permit here in Missouri. We also have had constitutional open carry for longer than I've been alive. Sometimes I conceal, usually when I'm hot and sweaty in the summer I open carry. Even in the town that I'm a career firefighter. Never once had a problem. I live in a great area also and I'm happy to live in the area I do. I'm glad Texans have more options now.

I have never seen a Church in Texas with a 30.06 or a 30.07 sign

I have seen one 30.07 sign on a house of worship but they sensibly have not posted a 30.06 sign. Considering the number of licensees in the congregation it would be extremely stupid. But there are plenty of knee jerk liberals there/anti-gunners, so we shall see.

I have seen one movie theater with both signs.

Other than that, I have not seen a proliferation of these signs. Yet.

As for the deer hunters carrying openly, that's technically been legal for a very long time. Hunting is one of the exceptions to the old rule banning open carry. If the deer hunters were also far enough away from home to stay out overnight then they fit into the old traveling exception, too. No LTC needed for that kind of open carry.

It is a defense to prosecution, not a grant to do it like the LTC is, but, still, in today's atmosphere the average police officer probably won't look twice at hunters carrying handguns openly.

Though I do not get out a lot, I have yet to see anyone OC in KS. We have had constitutional carry since last July 1. I do not think open carry is a wise idea. I only did it when in uniform. Any other time I carry concealed. I have found that OC upsets citizens and results in more person with a gun calls, which wastes law enforcement resources. Though it is the law here, my personal opinion is that it should be reserved for LEO showing badges.

Back when CHLs first appeared, I used to carry some business card sized white cards with something like this on it if I saw a business with a 30.06sign:

Hello. I am a concealed carry licensee - my license is State issued. If you don't want my business that's fine; my family and I shall patronize another establishment.

I'd walk in, hand it to a manager or a front desk person, and walk out.
