Does your job let you carry?

i looked at my handbook i seen nothing about it, but looking one line it seems some of the stores in some states have even asked customers to leave who were carrying.. I carried my old gun on my side every time i was a customer and no one said anything i see others all time.. I read one post somewhere a guy said he was fired for having his in his car on the property... i think I be taking them to court over that..

I work for a major retailer. They have a strict no carry policy for their employees. We're threatened with termination if we are found carrying or with loose ammo in our pockets.

In the event of a live shooting situation we're instructed to escape, hide or find a makeshift weapon (staplers, scissors, chair, etc.)

Thankfully they do support local state laws when it comes to concealed or open carry by their customers. I'm pretty sure that a major portion of our customers do carry.

No carry is the policy at my work inside the plant.

In the vehicle - state law says we can't ask.

So I don't ask or care if my employees have em.

I work in an office that is very casual and VERY gun friendly, all but a couple of us carry and there is always a gun being passed around, from handguns to the latest AR and accessories. We have a gun safe on site and a reloading room set up. When we interview people they are told up front of the gun friendly environment, I don't think that has stopped anyone so far. I pity any "bad guy" that would ever think to come in here.

Nothing has been said about carrying at work. So I always do. I know for a fact that 100% of the people we serve do not care one way or another. Some of their family may or may not but no one knows I carry. I work at a funeral home.

As a business owner with two partners, two associates and three administrative folks, we are gun friendly. I've carried for 15 years, our senior partner just got his permit and everyone in the office will be going to a shooting range in May for an office get together. I'm lucky to work with like-minded folks.

My father was a funeral director for close to 50 years.

Every now and then some people would ask about ghosts or other unusual things. His normal reply the dead will never hurt you the living on the other hand!

I got asked the same type of questions as a kid because we lived upstairs over the business, gave same answer!:D

I really can't say for sure. I don't recall anything in the handbook, so I'll assume "yes".

If anyone ever finds out, that means it came out for a reason, and my employment will be a secondary consideration to whatever caused it's unholstering.

In todays environment if you actually WANT your job you'd be better off assuming "NO"...or finding out for sure.
Be a shame to get called into your bosses office, questioned, fired, and escorted out by security, because somebody saw/discovered the gun you "thought" was totally undetectable.

I work for a big name freight RR. They have no weapons on premises policy, but a lot of guys carry concealed. Screw the RR!

I worked for a company that didn't allow employees to have firearms on any of the properties. My men would get called out at night to some of the worst parts of town. I told my crew, do not tell me that you were ever carrying at work, I fire you on the spot! as is company policy! I also told them I won't be asking how they stayed safe, when the company fired the security firm that was suppose to protect them!

Since I work elsewhere now, I always carry. All my superiors know and basically expect it. I would open a site before sunup in a terrible neighborhood. The boss comes in at 0530 and sees the gate open. He pulls an engraved High Power, and starts searching the buildings. His Marine training has failed him as he walks like a moose, I make sure the lights get on before he gets to where I am. I tell him it is my job to deal with anybody that isn't allowed to be there, he is suppose to sign my checks! We have a good understanding now!

I am a self-employed attorneyy, and can carry when I want to, subject to governmental restrictions regarding court facilities, post office, etc.

New York State, where I live, does not have a sign policy regarding property owner prohibiting firearms. However, a property owner could condition entry into/onto property on not carrying a firearm. Enforcing that would be a matter of discovering the firearm, asking the carrier to leave and having the carrier arrested for trespass if he/she failed to leave.

I have worked in the employment law area and have seen employer policies against possession of weapons, including firearms, at work. Such a prohibition may be a condition of employment and violation of same may be a cause for termination. Employers have cited insurance concerns for such a policy, but I have never seen anything from an insurance company regarding such a policy.

I have not researched whether or not a property owner or employer that prohibits otherwise lawful possession of a handgun on property or at work would be held to guarantee the safety of persons on the property or work in the event of an incident resulting in injury or death. I think a pretty good argument could be made that such a property owner or employer had a very high duty to safeguard the person of anyone subject to and in compliance with such a policy. I would love to know what an insurance company would think about insuring against that potential liability.

I am a lineman for an electric utility. When I started in 1978 most of us were hunters and shooters. We used to bring guns to work all of the time to show them off or trade or buy and sell.

Younger management and younger employees; new written policies forbidding possession of firearms on company property, including in a locked privately owned vehicle.

Only four of us hunt and only two of us shoot for recreation. The younger guys are all golfers, a few of them fish but they have no interest in guns or hunting. Heck, they don't even drink coffee!! Sheesh.

A very fair point. However, I should have included more info. We have a small office, maybe 20 people. The majority of our employees work off-site. We're a pretty tight-knit group. While no one knows for sure, I imagine that the two owners, and at least a few others know I carry. It's not a large corporate type atmosphere. Myself and maybe two others are the security. Worst case scenario would be a possible insurance change or something that would require them to enforce a policy. In that case, I would probably be asked, politely, and with little expectation of me complying!

I did refrigeration repair for a superstore and worked in different stores and some in bad areas in middle of the night when on call.
They had a no gun policy even in your vehicle on company property. Also no knives but we were allowed one as a work tool. Even if off the clock we weren't allowed to carry in their stores.
Later on the state ruled a company could not forbid a weapon in a private vehicle.
I almost always had a gun in my truck even when against the rules and at times did carry into stores in a bad area. I was never so concerned someone might spot my gun as I was getting into an accident and having one found on me as it was a firing offense and no second chance.
Now that I'm retired I carry all the time on their stores now. They couldn't take away my pension and maybe my 10% off card but manual says nothing about those retired either.
I was concerned about losing my job but more concerned about losing my life so I did make exceptions.

according to our employee handbook, we are "expressly prohibited from carrying any type of weapon onto Company's property whether in the employee's lunch box, locker, or through other means except where otherwise permitted by state law".

So i'm allowed to carry since i hold a valid CWL, however i don't advertise it and i'm sure some wouldn't be happy in our office environment.

No firearms allowed anywhere I have ever worked, and it was prohibited even in your personal vehicle while at work. That changed after the legislature passed a law that allows anyone with a valid handgun carry permit to secure one in their private vehicle while parked on employer premises. I wrote my elected representatives for several years explaining the need for that law and I'm glad I did.

yeah I really do not get the no gun in your personal car while at work. It is to protect me, I have to drive to and from work, I understand not coming in the store with it on, but in my car, that is my personal space. I mean there is no smoking inside the store either but they have a smokers area right outside the door and you can in your car whats the difference.
maybe if someone breaks into my car and steals it or comes in the store with it to rob them? but my car does have a alarm, i keep it locked. its in another locked spot in the car. I need protection, I have been car jacked at gun point once in my life if it happens again i will be ready for it.

One rather large nationaly know plant in my area had a no guns allowed posted at the gates to the parking area. That went for us contractor personal also.

They also also had a strict rule no booze of any kind inside the plant and parking area They had security at the gates from the parking area into the main plant and at random they would tell you to open your lunch box. You refused they escorted you off of property never to return. They also on occasion would go to a car/ truck in the parking area and demand to search the car/truck. Same deal no loookie no entry EVER. I know quite a few people that got bounced out of that place. FYI I was never asked or searched in my work times at that place.
