CO arrested in NJ

It seems to me the cops in NJ could have just booked this guys weapon as property recovered from his car, safeguarded it, and returned it to him when he was released from the hospital. There is such a thing as discretion, and it would have made sense to apply it here. I'll never understand NJ.

I don't think gun laws are discretionary in NJ. No arguing with you and certainly don't agree with the law but as it stands NJ looks at guns very unfavorably, bordering criminal. Doesn't mean the cops do but law is law

Got stopped in NJ this past November in my Mom's NJ plated Volvo. I had gone straight in a marked turning course. I was half lost and my GPS was not giving me good directions. Right in front of a marked unit too.

I screwed up...NO problem. Local PD guy was polite until he saw the MT DL. Started asking me about firearms, was I carrying, did I own guns?

I stated NO to having a firearm. He wanted permission to search. I politely stated NO. Figured THAT would get me a ticket for the turn violation.

Started asking him for directions and that seemed to take his mind off of everything. He got me in the right direction and told me to have a good day.

I thanked him and held out my hand. We shook hands and that was that.

He was polite and a Pro...but surely fixated on GUNS.

As I have said before, the people of New Jersey have forgotten their proud history, Lexington and Concord.

Looks that way, Cat. Things have been the way they are in NJ for quite a while. Seems like most residents are OK with their current situation.

Yeah, and let's not forget the battle for the Alamo over there in Newark!

THAT was funny!

If you are dumb enough to not KNOW the laws of the
state you are in should you even be carrying at all?

This isn't rocket science and we are talking about a weapon
are we not?

Some folks make it awfully hard on the rest of us who are
responsible gun owners.

Not everyone is cut out to carrying a firearm.

I would never go to jersey for anything ,the people should vote the scum out of office . We were on our way to a show at the Sands to see Dancing with Stars near Allentown PA and I went past my exit and was 5 mile from NJ had turn around fast I wanted no ware near that place . Had my MP shield with me . I dont speed , I dont tell , and its no to consent to a which hunt search . The show at the Sands was great.

The 2nd amendment is a felony in NJ. 5 year minimum mandatory prison. After 51 years of persecution and things going to get worse i have finally started my eventual move to SW Florida. This state has very little going for it in my eyes. No doubt Christie will pardon him as he will do for any arrest that gets national news coverage, but everyone else that trips on the sidewalk is going to prison, and hes just fine with that.

Was amazed they gave him a break! The state sounds just plain awful. Much like Ma. which does not recognize permits from other states. Just plain stupid. Recall that woman from Pa. who was arrested last year for entering that misery of N.J. and was arrested for possessing a gun. Not sure of that outcome.

Whether or not a PA CO can get a carry license in PA is not relevant. How their authority and employment related weapon carry are defined by PA state law is the controlling issue under LEOSA. No matter who we are or where we work, one must absolutely KNOW that status at all times, especially when traveling, and even more so when going to a place like NJ.

Mom and Dad took me to upstate NY in a 1972 Pinto Wagon about 1973 or so. I have no desire to visit anywhere northeast ever again except Vermont...get it?
