32 Safety, 3rd Model revolvers are not common in any condition. Your revolver would have shipped around 1911-1912, so it is considered a modern firearm by the BATF.

As far as I know, there are no numbers available on how many 2" Bicycle guns were manufactured. I have a blued example that was shipped in 1902 to Philip Bekeart Co., San Francisco.

You should really sell guns in the For Sale section of this Forum. http://smith-wessonforum.com/guns-sale-trade/

Not sure I would call it rare? Looking at the SWCA database, I see that roughly 13% of all listed 2nd & 3rd Models were 2". That by no means is a scientific assessment, but still an indicator.

FWIW, the barrel hinge pin needs to be 'clocked'. The witness marks should align and the pin will then be flush with the surrounding barrel hinge. It's noticeable in the first and third photos. Nice revolver.

Are the barrel serial number and the latch serial number matching to the frame ? The fact that the hinge pin is "unclocked" tells me someone may have switched barrels in the past and the 2 in. barrel may not be original to the gun. Ed.

Yes the numbers .match on latch and barrel.and cylinder. Very tiny numbers.

photos are only fair... but the numbers & lettering appeared soft.. not crisp... you need better pix of the lettering/numerals etc before anyone will be truly interested.

The evidence seems to support the fact that the 2 in. Bbl. is original to the gun, but it would not have left the factory in an "unclocked" format, so it's your choice if you want to realign the witness marks. Some one has disassembled it it the past, for whatever reason. Ed.

Iam getting a factory letter.dont know how long it will take.lets see what they say.

Im known for dumb questions, so here it goes.
Why "bicycle" gun and not sock drawer gun?
Some terminology is befuddling. To older minds.
Im old, so be kind. Best

Possibly because sometime early in the game, someone might have assumed this made for a good modern version of the French Velo-Dog pistol (velo being short for velocipede, or bicycle), which was designed to fend off attacking dogs while riding one's bicycle.

I believe bicycle guns in the US were those guns that were safe enough to carry on a bicycle without fear of accidental discharge. One was the Iver Johnson Safety revolver and the other was the S&W Safety Hammerless revolver.

S&W Trivia, I believe the first 2 in. barreled S&W .32 Safety shipped was serial number 53252 shipped June 14, 1893, to Dale & Shoverling, as a special order for a two inch barrel gun. I recently sold this gun to another member. I believe there may have been a run made of several 2 in. guns
, as there was another two inch gun with a serial number about ten numbers lower, but it was shipped a year later. I sold that gun years ago. There was a pair of .32 Safety Hammerless guns, special ordered with 1 1/2 in barrels, by a bank at an earlier date, and their serial numbers were in the 30K range as I recall. ( Don Mundell Pls. take note: These are Safety Hammerless New Departure guns, not "Lemon Squeezers" You may now sleep nights! ) Ed.
