Case trimmer

Newbie question. Do you trim 9mm cases? I've read yes and no, so thought I'd ask here where I can trust the responses. And if answer is yes.. What are some good ones y'all recommend? Thanks.

I've never trimmed a handgun case. Don't see that changing anytime soon.

the only pistol cases I trim are the 357's after the mouth splits from to many reloads and trim the down to 38's

No, I don't trim 9mm cases, but I do use a Forster trimmer on rifle cases. It has given me many years of service, and you can send the cutter back in for re-sharpening for a nominal fee. You might also,check out the Lee unit. I have used that one, also, and it works well.

I don't trim rimmed cases like .38 spl or 45 Colt. I DO trim cases that headspace on the case mouth, like .45 ACP and 9mm Luger.

For cases that headspace on the case mouth: if they are shorter than SAAMI min, they are junked; if they are longer than SAAMI max, they are trimmed.

Well I am in the trim camp, for assorted reasons-- I now use Sinclairs version of the Wilson trimmer -- FYI here-- for any one considering this avenue of approach-- consider your needs carefully, or those that might be in the future-- the upgraded handle comes complete in it's self-- if you wish a carbide cutter, that is another cost, as is one that will trim cases such as the 500 S&W-- it was sort of expensive for me to switch over but seems to be worth it. I like my cases to ALL be the same and just feel better about it.

I don't trim 9's either - I've yet to have one close enough to OAL to even think of trimming.

I've shot thousands and still no trimming.

I have 2 trimmers - Dillon 1200 for rifle and an RCBS crank trim which I've yet to turn once LOL

If you ever find a 9mm case that exceeds maximum length then save it for the museum, it is a real rarity!

Short answer, NO. It isn't necessary as they do not grow with use.

That's right! 9mm and .45acp cases if anything shrink rather than grow. Nothing there to trim.

I have never trimmed any handgun cartridge, save .30 Carbine for my Ruger Blackhawk in that caliber.

I trim every case I load, rifle and handgun. I like my crimp to be uniform in my revolver reloads. After loading a few times, I can start to skip trimming handgun brass for one or more load times before they creep back in length requiring trimming again. I honestly dont mind trimming one bit and never looked at reloading as a chore.

I spot check a few from any new batch I bring in and then on and off as time goes on. I don't recall ever finding anything so out of spec that it needed trimming (9mm). If I were looking for some extreme accuracy, then I'd probably go through the process of matching headstamps, checking case volumes, trimming every case to an exacting standard and all that rigmarole.

I don't trim handgun cartridges, even those used in lever action rifles. I do trim some of the cartridges for T/C pistols like 22 Hornet, 221 Fireball, & 223 Remington, but not 357 or 44. I know of at least one person that trims 44 Mag. and 45 Colt for use in revolvers but he shoots at distances from 800 to 1100 yards.
