I want to build a snubby box. But I don't have a 2-inch Model 10 or 64 Round Butt on hand to use for dimensions. In our Club matches, we shoot a fair amount of P.P.C.-style matches with lots of different modifications. We have the "Target Class" in which revolvers or automatics with barrels longer than 4.2 inches and adjustable sights compete together.
We have the "Service Class" in which revolvers or automatics with barrels of 3.4 inches up to 4.2 inches compete together with or without adjustable sights. We give 5 and 6 inch Model 10's or Heavy Duty's with fixed sights a pass and let them compete in "Service Class".
We have the "Super Snubby Class" in which 2.5 inch Model 19's, 3-inch Model 10's and 64's and 13's and 65's are all lumped into.
And then we have the "Snubby Class". We need a box (wooden, made here, with a lid and a latch) that will just barely fit a 2-inch Model 10 or 64 and allow you to close the lid and latch it. The revolver should be fitted with stock factory magna grips and as I said, it should just barely but definitely fit. Once we have "the box" it becomes easy to "classify" the gamers into SNUBBY or SUPER SNUBBY Class. Since a Model 10 2-inch or a Colt Detective Special holds 6-shots we actually allow them to compete as either Snubby or Super Snubby guns (the Snubby course is based on 5-shots per string). Owner's choice. But we use the box to determine where a pistol fits into the game.
So it's only a "game tool", not any type of standardization apart from the way we do it on our range.
But to build the box, I need the dimensions and I don't have a 2-inch Model 10 or 64 handy. If someone out there who does have one could help me out with the exact dimensions (internal dimensions) necessary, I'd sure appreciate it. I want the box to be a simple rectangle or square, not some thing with angles. I'd need to know length, width, and height -- which I suppose is just K-frame cylinder thickness -- of the inside dimensions to just fit a 2-inch 10 or 64.
I have a 2-ínch Model 12 (with a cracked frame) currently close-by that I suppose I could use in a pinch but I'm not sure how exactly close to a 2-inch Model 10 one of those is and want to be as precise as I can be.
Thanks, if you can help me with this and want to bother.
Cheers!
