Thank you all for the feed back! Sorry about my poll error of not offering a zero problems option.. Wasn't thinking there.

I had my .40 shield since they came out up until I traded it for this 9mm and I had absolutely zero problems of any kind and had about 1000 rounds through that one.

Same problem here...1st 100 Federal NO problem.... Second outing, used "Off" brand ammo (can't remember name, bought at range) BOOM slide lock!! Couldn't get it to cycle, no way, no how... Gun was cleared, slide just stuck.. Range officer took gun to their gunsmith who happened to be there... He took one look, gave the slide a rap on the table, slide broke loose, looked at me, "new gun?" "still breaking in"... Changed ammo brand (Federal)... NO problems.. I tried CCI Brass...happened a couple of more times...Soooo, I thought it must be the ammo brands giving me problems... Put another 400 thru using Federal, Winchester, and Hornady critical duty...ZERO problems...

Mine hasn't been perfect but is trustworthy. Had a few failures during the last day of a 3 day class. I was at least 800, maybe 900+ rounds w/o cleaning (wanted to see how it would do) and started to have some failures to feed. Had maybe one failure to extract/double feed, and several malfunctions completely caused by me riding the slide stop or slide. All in all it's been a good gun and I'm not seeing the problems you describe. Good luck, 100% agree w/ others, keep cabelas out of the loop. Anyone willing to work there is suspect. Hope S&W will get you sorted out.

At least 700+ rounds thru shield 40. No issues so far. But I do clean it after ever range trip.

Sort of like so many polls I see in the media, this one is slanted in such a way that everyone who votes will have had a problem. Sorry, I've never had an issue with mine in over 6500 rounds.

Have close to 1500 rounds though my .40 (mostly Winchester white box and some Hornady Critical Defense) with only three FTE's very early on during the break in period. However, during my last range visit earlier this week, I had two instances of the slide NOT locking back after the last round. I had gone through all of the factory ammo I brought from home, but was not ready to quit so I got a box of reloads from the range. It was when using those that the incidents occurred. It was not FTE because I was able to rack the slide to make sure the last empty ejected. I suspect the reloads, but can't figure why the slide didn't lock back since the last round DID eject. It is possible that maybe I had my thumb on the slide lock a little too hard, preventing it from engaging after the last round. Further testing with only factory ammo is in order to determine if there is some other problem.

It'd be nice if everyone got off the poll issue... To be completely honest I don't really care how many people have had zero issues with their shields. I've had a Shield .40 and it had no issues at all I understand 99% of people have had no issues with their shields and that is irrelevant to why I'm posting on here! I want people's feedback so when S&W sends my broken shield back and it's still broken I can have some course of action planned out on what to check on and what to keep an eye out for on my 9mm.

I'll remember next time to exclude the poll on any post to avoid everyone and their brother from chiming in to voice that there's no option for them to vote....

I predict the headline about the poll results will be:

"100% of Poll Respondents Have Had Major Failures With S&W Shield!"

Shield failure

I had to send my 9mm Shield back as it locked back so far that it wouldn't go back into battery. Had to tap the end of the barrel on the wood top bench to get the slide to go forward. Used factory ammo. Tried different factory ammo and did the same thing. Tried my reloads, same thing. Brought it back to gun shop and they sent it back to Smith. I am now waiting for it to come back. Will keep yall posted as to whether I have any more issues. I hope not as I plan on using this pistol as a carry pistol. It HAS to work or you are in trouble. All I'm saying.

To be clear , and fair, this is the incident I described in my first post, not an additional one.

You asked for people's feedback. you got people's feedback. Quit whining because it's not the feedback you wanted.

Sorry I was unable to VOTE due to "no problems" not being among one of the voting choices. To date I have over 8400 rounds thru my Shield 9 and 450 rounds thru my Shield 40.... Not ONE single issue with either one of them.

if you are using reloads then I think it's safe to assume that is your problem. The only reloads I use are from Freedom Munitions.
