If you're using that two hand hold it may be your thumb is pressing up on the slide stop and this will lock that slide back every time.I've had a similar issue with my new Shield 9mm. Cleaned the gun and went to the range. On the 3rd round I fired the slide locked back to the rear and would not budge. I removed the mag and basically forced it forward which freed it up. Tried a different mag and same result. This happened a total of 4 times within 25 rounds shooting both winchester white box and blazer brass. Twice I disassembled the gun to check recoil spring alignment but it was fine. Also I had two failures to return to battery completely. I had to push on the slide to close it. I wasn't limp wristing the gun. Yes the slide totally locked up to the rear and separately it failed to return to battery. I shot another 100 or so rounds with no problems. Very disappointing for a gun with such high praise from everyone to have these problems right out of the box.
So I called S&W today and spoke with someone. Told him what happened & he said the same thing happened with his shield when it was new & he said it needed to be broken in with about 300-400 rounds. Hmm, just didn't sit well with me. He did also say if it continues to jam then I can send it in to them. Not sure what I'm gonna do. If I'm going to carry this it needs to be 100%. I will probably take it back to the range & see how it does. But I feel like I may have got a lemon based on so many people saying they've never had a problem. I have a feeling i may be sending it in to S&W before it's all over with.
