Forum member had firearm posted for sale here. We agreed to a price. Later he texted me and said the "situation had changed" and he was going to keep it.

If it was a S&W, I'd say he came to his senses.

It's tough but sometimes things happen. We don't know all the circumstances. Perhaps, facing a family emergency he need to come up with some $$$ and was going to sell a prized possession and after a short while it worked out and he didn't need to. Perhaps he is just a jerk.

If I'm not out any money or property I'd forget about it in half a second. If he changed his mind or can't do the sale for whatever reason that's his problem.

Buying and selling comes with some disappointments. It's like my dad told me about breaking up with a girlfriend, "Don't worry kid, girlfriends are like buses... there will be another one come by shortly."

One time a few years ago,
A feller want to sell this section of land, we drove over it,

Maybe it just wasn't meant to be?
Look at it this way, you might'a still got the better deal. Sometimes it's better to have cash in your pocket, than a gun you later on regret buying.

I'd be reminded to feel blessed for the way I was raised by my parents.

I'd remember to not do business with the person again. I've made a ton of mistakes in my life but I try not to repeat the same ones.

Consider yourself lucky you weren't further in. Couple years ago, I "bought" a Glock 20 from the classified section of a reputable firearms forum (not this one). We agreed on price and conditions. I sent a USPS MO. No Glock, no communication. Eventually, he said he'd changed his mind and was not selling. Weeks went by without getting my money back despite multiple emails. After I contacted his local police department, his college dean, and threatened to get in touch with his parents, he finally returned my money.

Similar things in other contexts have happened to me numerous times. There's nothing you can really do about it, absent some written contract with the appropriate legal language, other than to forget about it.
