Will be looking at a 3 inch model 66 from I believe early to mid 1980's. No box. Gun is easy 98% and very tight with good timing . All original except from the grips. The shop will price it at around 850-900. I have it on hold and will look at it Tuesday . Don't see any for sale. Owner of the shop said that anything under a 1k is a deal. Does it matter if it's a dash 2 or 3? Did it come with regular RB grips? This one has rubber grips that allow You to see the serial number .

The visible serial number tells me we're looking at two different guns. Makes we wonder about these. Did only the special run 3", with fiber optic front site, have those grips? they sound and look like Hogues. I believe the ones on "mine" are Pachmyr. I like the idea of fiber optic and one was sold on GB.

If mechanically sound and original, it is a good price for either a -2 or 3. They usually came with Magna stocks but the type you mention with the cutout (Pachmayr Compacs) were a common replacement.

Hopefully we don't have a conflict brewing here :):

Its a dash 3. No box , rubber grips, very tight and mechanically sound. No scratches , no dings. no modifications. All original.

I feel anything under a 1K total is good . Unless I am missing something. I think I will get It.

I lucked into a -2 for very short money several years ago...probably my all-time favorite .357 Magnum.

Found an extra cylinder for mine that dropped right in and sent it to TK Custom to be rechambered and milled for moon clips.. It will now also shoot .38 Super and 9mm...

Great find...Bob

Got it! It's a 1992 -3. 98%+. S&W customer service told me that its a 1992 and left the factory with 3 inch barrel. I ended up giving a same condition (98%+) model 65-2 3 inch for it +200.00 cash total. Everyone is happy.

All very well, but...

Great buy! I stumbled onto a -3 earlier this year at the Market Hall show in Dallas. Saw it on an individual's table with a price tag of $795. I offered $700, he countered with $750 and we agreed on $725. I'm not sure if he knew that it was a 3" or if he thought it was a 2 1/2"
