While waiting for my 15-22 to arrive, any break in procedure needed? If yes, what's your procedure?

Ive got a 10-22 and the barrel did not require any specific procedure for break in.

Is it the same with the 15-22?

Thanks!

No break in but there are some important things to know about the 15-22. One of which is to protect the ejector from getting hit, bent or snagged during cleaning. Please read the threads here about the proper cleaning of the rifle. One tip is to place a straw over it while cleaning.

Other critical thing is to never clamp the upper while removing the flash hider and/or barrel. Since the upper is polymer, some folks have damaged theirs by doing so. I suggest getting a barrel vise & barrel tool. Got mine from Tacticool22.

Thanks for the heads up. Great information even before my 15-22 will arrive.

You are welcome & welcome to the forum. Too many folks have screwed up their 15-22s then come here complaining of failures. I think you did good to come here first. Just take the time & read a lot of threads. Most anything you could possibly question has already been asked so there is lots of helpful info here.

John at S&W customer service e-mailed me that the break-in period is 300-400 rounds. If I had any issues during the break-in he advised me to try ammo with different velocities.

I cleaned my brand new MP15-22 with loving care before I fired it. Then I took it to the range and fired 400 rounds through it. It is almost broken in now. I probably should clean it again.

It needs nothing more than passing a BoreSnake through the barrel a couple of times and blowing out the lower with compressed air. Clean the bolt face with a toothbrush if you are feeling energetic.

Do you use the Bore Snake dry or wet (lube)?

And my bolt was extremely dirty after almost 1,000 rounds so I had to take that out and clean it.

I put CLP on the "head" of the snake. A clean bolt face is always better, but I don't bother until about a thousand rounds. Of course, for me that's two trips to the range. :)

Thanks.

This wasn't just my bolt face. The bolt got so dirty that it was not sliding freely.
