Well magnums is a loose caliber designation. Any of the medium burners will do in 357 up thru 45colt +p.

True but is such a "loose" question also.;)

Well I still vote none of the above as the only of of the 4 I have is Bullseye and I would not consider it.

So lets all guess. How about TrailBoss?

The only powder of the ones listed that I have used is Bullsye and would only use it for light to mid target loads.

I think if you are talking about 'light to mild' Magnum why not go to 38Spl loads instead of Magnum 357 and same for 44 to go to Special instead of Magnum. These might be better for the powders you are suggesting.

This is what I assumed he meant since he didn't list and true slow magnum powders and is also looking for low end performance.

I voted Bullseye since I used it in the past with good accurate results in 357 Mag 158 gr SWC mid range loads - 1,000 fps. in my 4 inch. I checked each case I loaded with small flashlight ensuring against any potential for double charging. Ultimately, I'm sticking with Unique with 6.0 grs for lower mid range load up to 7.0 grs for my max cast loading (all 158 gr lead)

Medium burning powder.....

A medium burning powder will give you the most range from low velocity target to light magnum loads. Unique/Universal won't give Bullseye accuracy target loads or magnum 110/296 velocities but can get up next to 2400 lighter magnum loads.

Bullseye CAN be loaded hotter than most would expect, but it's also tricky and any overdose can have bad results.

Good for bunnyfart loads in the magnums.

There are .44 Magnum loads (240 @ 1200) for Bullseye. I wouldn't bother attempting them. Why do it when there's a virtually identically powder more suited to that pressure?

The above powders are not on my list. So with that in mind I didn't poll each person has his favorite powder. best of luck

I use & like 'em all.

Recently surprised with pleasant/accurate Universal 45 acp loads at 820fps/230 RNL that gave exceptionally good results at the Steel Challenge distances.

None of the above, my preferred brand is Accurate Arms powder. I stocked up in early November 2008 (Wednesday after the election) when the price was right, and shelf inventory was excellent.

Unique, Tite Group , Red Dot , 4227, 2400 for medium to hot loads in 38,357,44spl, 45 AR,45 LC.

Bullseye in light to medium loads for 32 SWL, 38 Spl, 45 ACP. Load bullseye hot and it tends to melt lead bullet bases.

Bullseye is he only one you listed that I use for pistol cartridges.I do use Universal for shotgun loads.

Which would you choose for light to mild magnum loads?

(Assuming a 357 revolver) If it had to be one powder, I would go with Universal. It works OK for light loads and you can get within shouting distance of full 357 velocity. My most used target load is a 158 plated FP (Rainier) over 5.5 Universal. Super clean shooting load.

Bullseye works great for light loads in 357 brass, better than Unique or Universal IMO. I use it with a 125 grain coated bullet, which leaves a lot of empty space in the magnum case, but Bullseye performs very well there. Lyman also recommends Bullseye for light loads in 357 brass. I would never push the pressure with Bullseye though, strictly light target stuff.

Haven't used the other 2, but WSF looks similar to HS-6 which is my powder for my 'magnum lite' loads.

I like to put all my loads in magnum brass even the light ones, saves the hassle of adjusting dies and keeps the cylinder cleaner.

You conveniently left out a lot of important information required to make an informed selection.
What round ?
Rifle or handgun ?
Jacketed , plated , powder coated or cast lead ?
Target shooting , plinking, action shooting , hunting ?

Believe it or not.....the details are very important !
Without any other information , good old Unique is quite versital but may not be the exact best choice for whatever you wish to do.
