I don't often smoke but I do have an occasional cigar.
I've been smoking Swisher Sweet Perfectos. They're the most available, machine wrapped and affordable.
When I ran out, I stopped at the local liquor store and picked up a coupla cigarellos.
I'm thinking of ordering cigars online but there's bunches to choose from.
Keeping in mind that I'm on a very tight budget, can anyone recommend a good affordable cigar?

Only one I ever had that did not remind me of a fire in a landfill :D

Two words...Arturo Fuente.
If you only smoke one a month or every couple of weeks
then what's a 8 dollar cigar?

Those "cigars in a bag" or those from a gas station will not give you
near the pleasure a good dominican will.
You're worth it Snubby.

And at around 17 bucks i like the OPUS X by Fuente.

You could always try the Clint Eastwood style Backwoods cigars. A fairly flavorful little cigar for a man on a tight budget. I used to smoke them instead of cigarettes during hunting season.

Those are really nice, OP you should try the "sweet aromatic" ones. WAY better than Swisher sweets. I personally also like Black & Milds, the original kind with the plastic tip seem to taste better than the new wood tip ones. :)

Montecristo #2 . You can usually find them for about $10 / ea , on sale . That may seem high , but they are worth it .
I don't buy " factory " made cigars . As several yrs ago I became acquainted with a young man here in Texas that was from Cuba . His grandfather was a cigar maker and passed it on to his grandson . He makes my cigars for me , by hand - personally . They are wonderful . In fact I just got another box of 25 today . I started smoking cigars when I was 16 , that was many years ago . I appreciate a good cigar.
Update , here is my cigar maker : Jose Adrian Hernandez , 3rd generation cigar roller , He goes by " Faustino Cigars " He resides here in the Dallas Area , does almost every gun show in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area . Phone #: 469-396-2412 . He loves America , a good man , He will ship if your not local .

PAYLESS-CIGARS.COM ... I smoke captain black little cigars lots of flavors .. about $3.79 a pack if U order 4 cartons @ a time.. they R in the machine rolled area ..
But when I want a good cigar ...
I smoke a Natural Dirt by DREW ESTATES
Coffee Infused ..very mild & relaxing ..

Have A Great Day ... COWBOYUP57 ..

All of the above....

All of the above are very good cigars, and most I've tried plus some. For a few years I spent $5-10 on each cigar a smoked one a day. But, I have simple tastes. I always enjoyed a plain old King Edward or White Owl about as much as the hand made jobs. I'm not sure about this but during the cigar 'boom', I thought the handmades had too much of a 'green grassy' taste (except Cubans:eek:)*

If you do want handmades, JR is not only a great place to shop online, but visiting the store is like a big cigar theme park.:)

* You cigar afficiandos I'd like to hear your opinion on the 'green, grassy' taste. Is it just me? I don't think I've ever tried Punch or Ashton or Henry Clays or Nat Shermans.

Over the years, I think I've bought enough Fuente products to own part of Chateau de la Fuente ;) Seriously, the 8-5-8s (as Mr Bates recommends above) are a great value. I prefer the Don Carlos to the Opus X lines, but the sleeper is the Anejo Reserva Xtra Viejo... the Opus blend in a Connecticut or Maduro wrapper aged in cognac barrels (yum!) Fuente makes several other lines, including La Unica, JC Newman, Ashton, Cuesta Rey, Montesino and Diamond Crown. If you can find the Cigar Family Charitable Family "Toast Across America" two-packs, buy one...great value and the proceeds go to schools near the Tabacalera Fuente factories in the DR. Tampa Sweethearts is a must-see for cigar fans; cozy, friendly and has a great selection of everything from value cigars to outrageous goodies. A couple years ago, I had the luck to stop in while Arturo (Carlos) Sr. was there; he and Arturo Jr. we're kind enough to sign items.
If Fuente isn't your thing, the Perdomo Lot 23 is a great value; most any of the Padron line are winners.

Our embargo on cigars has really torn the Cubans up over the last 50 years. I think they've had enough, now.:D:D:D

But not to worry....
We will soon have another Disney World in Havana along with
ferry service from Florida now that Cuba has been determined
to be "our friend". :eek::eek::eek:

The "green grassy cigar" was a real issue in the later years of the cigar boom, as a lot of startup companies were buying whatever tobacco they could and turning product quickly to capitalize on the demand. Poorly aged tobacco is indeed grassy. With the exception of candelas, cigars shouldn't be green :p

I have to agree on the Anejo. The new Anejo 888 is my favorite smoke these days but not one a I would recommend to someone new to cigars. Also they are best when put down for a few years rest in the humidor for some aging. My problem is they don't often make it that long.

Sadly Don Carlos Fuente Sr. passed away a few weeks ago.
