I just finished watching this 2007 movie.

I really liked it. Good movie, but I wonder if anyone here that has seen the movie find some of the police procedures within the story a bit far fetched.

A scene near the beginning comes to mind......I'll wait and see if anyone else knows what scene I refer to and why.

It's fiction, and Hollywood takes it a step further. Lots of stuff to poke fingers at when it comes to authenticity. While the movie was okay, what really matters is the writing. Read the book. McCarthy weilds words like a Samurai warrior weilds his sword.

I like the guy in it who kills people with the cow poker gun!!! :D

I did think the movie did the book justice. The same with The Road.

Well okay, here is the scene that bugged me a bit. As I say near the beginning:

We see a deputy leading a handcuffed suspect to his car.....way out in the middle of nowhere. So, the deputy is back at his station all alone except for himself and the suspect.

Now, instead of locking the suspect into a cell, he simply has the suspect sit in a chair.....still cuffed....and then carries on a conversation on the phone with his sheriff about the mysterious suspect he just brought in......the entire time with his back to the suspect. We see the suspect in the back round rise from the chair and sneak up on the deputy......and he then brutally strangles the deputy with the handcuffs. Bad guy then cleans up in the restroom and then drives off in the deputies squad car.

Now I realize....it is just a movie. A good movie. A VERY good movie and that is why the scene bugs me because I can easier accept such "movie nonsense" in a lesser movie.

I cannot imagine in such an otherwise well written story they'd have this deputy so careless/stupid.

I saw the movie in the theater years ago...wouldn't have been something I'd have chosen but I went with some friends.

I loved it then, and have seen it a number of time since. Even if not 100%, I still find it an interesting story.

Russ, I like your question. The reality is I knew a few deputies who were not any more intellectual. They made everyone around them nervous. Small Counties sometimes do not get folks who graduate at the top of the class. It was one reason the Sheriff relied on some proven reserves. At times it was not realistic, but I got the picture. Criminals are becoming organized and more deadly.

I like the scene of Llewelyn being chased across the stream by a pit bull dog......and as he gets back on land running he takes his 1911 pistol from his waistband.....drops the mag.....then shakes the water out of the pistol & mag....he even blows into the open chamber......re-inserts mag drops the slide just in time and shoots the dog just before it attacks him.

A great little detail in gun-handling most movies would ignore.

Great scene!
