S&W 4043 Ever come with a black slide?

First time post, great site - it's been a lot of help.

I'm looking at a 4043 .40cal and it has a black slide - can't find any pictures one another one. Did they ever come with a black slide? This one looks pretty good, about $350 - is that a good deal? Thanks!

4043s' were stainless slide,4044s' were 'black' slide. Both are the same DOA guns except for material. someone could have put a 4044 slide on a 4043 pistol.

Original or modified, I'd buy it in a heartbeat for $350 assuming it doesn't have any internal issues.

Thanks for the info - didn't know there was an black 4044. I like the two-tone look so if it checks out I get it.

There have been several odd runs of two toned guns that showed up years back.. No way of telling for sure what you have.
Here's a suggestion, call S&W (1-800-331-0852) hit the prompt for Customer Service (I think it's 2 these days)
When you get a customer service rep, ask them to provide you a SKU/Product Code for your gun, you will need to give them your serial number.
Once you have that, it may be something in the Standard Catalog, or if it matches a known model that might be a clue.
Not a 100% way to do it, but should get you closer. Ultimately, if it's an unknown sku/product code, you might want to get a factory letter to confirm how it was shipped.

Worth a little more digging, I have found the CS reps to be very helpful if you chat them up some... Normally they will provide the sku/product code, sometimes they will even tell you which distributor the gun went to, and the month/year it shipped.

Anything is more than you have at this time.

In any event, you have a very desireable auto, it looks good, 40 S&W is a great caliber, the DAO action and alloy frame make that a great shooting/carry gun.

Update

Didn't see your pic above with the serial number earlier, so I called S&W with your serial number (TZY3039 if I read it right)...
Here's what I got:

Product code 108529
Shipped in 2004

The SCSW ver 3 shows that the "standard" M4043 was product code 108528, so yours is different, could be the two tone finish... Might get a letter for more detail, or wait for SCSW ver 4 that should be out in a couple months, Rick might have posted updated info on your SKU from his ongoing/excellent research.

The frame appears to be coated with something, and maybe even the slide too. This doesn't mean that it wasn't a factory two-tone though.
What's the asking price?

It was on gunbroker auction site - I didn't buy it, I went for a 4046TSW Tactical with the original blue plastic case and two mags for $380. The 4043 didn't sell and has been relisted, now the starting bid is only $319.99 so if someone else wants to grab it. Item number is 586081302.

I bought the two tone 4043. It's been refinished could be cerakote, but it's well done. Now I have a good looking shooter with new 5900 grips on. I shot it, kept all shot in the black, no problems, happy camper!

Was very tempted.....

You got a neat DAO model, probably make a great carry gun as well as general shooter....
