I've owned a lot of revolvers over the years. Never had a 45 auto revolver until now.

S&W 625 JM, brand new. This one has a very tight lock up and zero endshake.

Any experience and thoughts about this one is much appreciated. It will be a home defense and occasional carry piece.

Thanks

Congrats! I use rimz soft clips. Easy load and unload. I shoot a 170g Magnus swc over 4.2 because my 1911 likes it. Offhand Flyer below is me. Fun with a red dot on an $8 scope mount.

S&W 45acp wheelguns are like potato chips... you can't do with just one. I'm up to 7. Either that or they multiply when I close the safe door. Enjoy and shoot the heck out of it.

If they are multiplying when you close the door, could you find out what the secret is? My three aren't and I could do with a couple more. :D

Congrats on your first 45 wheel gun. The 625 JM is a fine .45 revolver that you will love shooting. Like others have mentioned, get yourself a mess of moon clips. Yer gonna need em!

I sold off my 1911 a long time ago because 45 at the time was expensive but now that I reload I really want a 45 again but 1911's are too finicky for me and thats when I found the 625 and man that gun is now 3rd on my revolver list!
Great buy man that is a sexy *** gun

Congrats and enjoy! I'm a 1911 guy and have a 45ACP Mountain Gun (my first as well) waiting at the Fun Shop right now. I like it when my guns can share ammo! Can't wait to get started myself. A heavy barrel/full underlug like yours is on my list next.

Hello, I agree about the 45acp, awesome round. I was wandering about the JM verses a PC? I have a 625-8, 4", RB PC model with an awesome trigger. Is a JM any different? Sorry, I didn't mean to steal the thread! Just wandering.
Thanks
Dave

Thanks for the feedback.

The history of the 45acp revolver is partly why I like this revolver. I'm a 1911 guy myself, and I figured that this one goes nice with my Ithaca 1911 (new production). Two old war horses, modernized.

Honestly, these grips are the nicest feeling N-frame grips I've felt. The are thin profiled, but have a nice 'spacer' at the trigger guard to keep my hand where it needs to be.

STCM is correct about buying some Auto Rim. Buffalo Bore has it in standard velocity and high velocity. . .I use standard in my old gun. It really turns the gun into a "normal" loading and ejecting revolver.

As my username would suggest - I have a "thing" for them. Almost an entire shelf in the safe dedicated to them. My very first gun as an adult was a 625-3 3". It was all down hill from there. Models: 1917's, 1950's, 1955's, 25's, 625's - normal production, limited editions, Trophy guns.

Current production 45Wheelguns are some of the best the factory has ever made.

Hello - My name is Dave, I have a 45Wheelgun addiction.

Dave--I have never wanted to be accused of blasphemy on this forum but I believe my 22-4 is as nice as ANY S&W revolver of any vintage that I have ever seen. The fit, finish and mechanics are simply outstanding. I ignore the lock.

Thank you for your post.

Elmer Keith wrote in one of his books that the .45ACP revolver concept was (as close as I can come) smart emergency engineering, but not practical engineering. He was probably right: the U.S. needed many .45 handguns in WWI and the ACP revolver with half-moon clips was the way to do it. In terms of modern shooters, we're having too much fun with our ACP wheelies to worry about it!

Gotta love those .45's. Forefathers of the current .45 ACP revolvers and pistols.

S&W Model 1917 Commercial (circa 1929) (Refinished) and a 1943 Ithaca Military Contract 1911A1pistol.

Both shoot as smooth and accurate as the day they came from the factory! The modern ones are great but it is so enjoyable to be able shoot a piece of history. Wouldn't trade them for a modern one.

I love shooting .45 ACP revolvers, they really destroy tin cans and targets with nice, big holes. There used to be five .45 ACP revolvers in my safe, however I sold the two collectible safe queens and now have a 625-8 5 inch, 22-4 Thunder Ranch and Ruger Blackhawk 4.63 inch.

Lucky for me, the 625-8 had been returned by the original owner to S&W for a Performance Center action job and chamfered charge holes. I added a Millet red dot. The 22-4 TR is probably my favorite center-fire revolver because it just flat out shoots where I point it. The Ruger is quite fun too, especially after I replaced the factory rear sight with a Hamilton Bowen target sight.
