My Watch Just Died

Take a good look around your house and take note of everything else that's on it's last leg.It will give you some idea of when you can expect to be able to buy that semi you wanted. :(

You cant beat a Seiko self wind watch, I have a Titanium Seiko, I only touch it twice a year, when we turn the clocks.

You guys are all rich. I haven't had a wrist watch in over 30 years. I don't care. Before I retired, if I needed to be somewhere, there were people telling me. I had a clock on my desk, another in the jeep, and one in my bedroom. These days I don't go on other peoples times. My wife's near by and telling me what to do, and when to do it. I have no penalty for being late, but I'm always on time, usually a little early. Unlike the slaves who rush all over, being tied to the time.

I eat when I'm hungry. I sleep when I feel like it. I get up late, and don't care. I take naps without regard to the time.

My Father had a self winding watch in his later years. It kept going dead because he didn't move enough. He had to remember to shake it a bit every day.
In his defense, he was handicapped.

When I was still working, I'd wear the cheapest thing Wal-Mart had because I regularly beat the dickens out of 'em. I remember when they were $2. By the time I retired the darned things were up to $10!

I now wear a $30 Timex. Its one of the most expensive watches I've ever had and keeps perfect time. :D

Snubby, I have a Timex Expedition that I wear 24/7. Actually have 2 of them. They have both been below 100' while diving. Oldest is 15 (?) yrs old. What I found on the oldest one, was that the wallyworld battery didn't last but a couple of weeks. Found a new watch just like the old one and bought it. When the newest watch depleted the juice in the battery I looked at Amazon and found a pile of them for a few dollars. Brought the newest one back up and decided that since I had the spare batteries I would put one in the old one. It came up and has been working fine. Just checked it since it is in the desk drawer (a yr+) and it says exactly the same time as the one I wear every day. Larry

forget the new watch and buy a cell phone, a lot more useful and you can keep up with the forum when you take a break. watches are like hulu hoops = went out of style and usage years ago. You still drive a VW beetle?

Its much better to pay the monthly fee to carry a phone you don't want to use and frequently leave at home because people bother you if you carry it. Very few people are so important that they need to be plugged in all the time.

Watches are obsolete unless you consider them a decoration.

With a cell phone in your pocket why do you need a time piece on your wrist.

Anyone read newspapers anymore?

Watches are the single largest item collected around the world. The larger international forums have member counts into the millions.Watches are only obsolete to the younger crowd who never look away from their smart phone. In the business world,a good pair of shoes and an expensive Swiss watch is still the universal statement of success.

By God, you may find yourself without a cell phone one day but if you have a good watch on your wrist you'll still know the time.

I vote for a Casio Pathfinder. I have one I can't wear out. Solar powered, time adjusted by the atomic clock in Fort Collins, Co. It also has a compass, barometer and altimeter.

Pay the money and put one on your wrist too. You won't regret it.

Since I've retired I have gone from three watches to only two. My casual "beater" watch is a citizen eco drive that has served me for much longer than its projected life expectancy, the Jewelers told me it should take a solar charge for about 5 years or so, it's been almost 15 and still going strong. My other watch is a Rolex presidential date just with jubilee bracelet and diamond dial.i suspect this watch will go to one of my sons and then grandsons someday. Maintenance is expensive but well worth it to me. Yes I carry a cell phone but don't use the clock on it very often.i don't feel dressed if I'm not wearing a watch either.

Took my Casio Pathfinder to a jewelry store the other day. They said they could clean it up for $60, but no guarantee it would work any better. We agreed: repair is by replacement.

Ordered my 4th from Amazon this week.

My hitch in the Army and career at the phone company were the reason I wore a watch. Both jobs were predicated on time. Cell phones didn't come around till the tail end of my career. It's a habit I've never broken. Despite being retired, still wear a watch every day. Carry a pocket knife too. Can't slice an apple with a cell phone.

Pack a lighter or matches too and you can sit by a fire while you eat that apple... I can't function without my wallet, watch, pocket knife and a lighter.

Unless I'm using a chainsaw or something similar, I have a wristwatch on and have since I was a young teen. I check the time countless times every day. I still have the first automatic watch my parents got me for Christmas back in 1973. It's a Seiko.

I just bought my son an Automatic Raymond Weil and myself a Quartz Movado. I like a less expensive quartz watch for daily romping and especially for golf. I've seen exploded automatic watches from hitting a golf ball! Both of my kids have GPS, multi-function watches for daily use. I much prefer a nice, attractive classic watch.

Snubby, two of the big online watch outlets; Ashford and Joma have Cyber sales still going on. I got 2 great deals at Ashford this week. You might want to check them out. I've bought from both and never had an issue. Free shipping going on now as well.

As a side note...I have 2 watches ready for pick up (my son's Tag F1 chrono and my wife's Tag) at the jeweler's getting new batteries, new seals and testing. That's a $75 hit for each. Automatics can be expensive to repair, especially if they go back to the mother ship in Switzerland, but quartz watches will nickel and dime the bejeebers out of you too.
Good luck!
