I've been progressively recuperating since my crash that I posted about at the beginning of October. The kid who hit me was driving the car his girlfriend drives, which was owned and insured by her mother. It took some doing to verify that the insurance was good because there was a misspelling of the mother's name and the VIN was off by 1 number. The sheriff's Deputy who wrote the crash report went way beyond the call of duty to get all of that straight and I finally got a check for my totaled Scrambler towards the end of November. I had been looking for my next bike and had pretty much decided that I wanted a Triumph Rocket III Touring. I found this one that was purchased and traded in with 25 miles on it and I had it shipped. It came in yesterday, but I still can't ride just yet because I have to get the tags for it.

This thing is a BEAST, but a manageable beast. It's a 2300 CC torque monster that is very stable at nearly 1000 lbs yet surprisingly nimble through the twisties. Compared to the Scrambler that seat is like a Barcalounger. I'll miss the off road adventures that I had with the Scrambler... but the bulk of the riding I do is with neighbors and the Legion Riders and this bike will make those rides MUCH more enjoyable.

Nice looking bike. With that size engine and overall weight it should provide a smooth ride down the highway and through the "twisties".

I am hoping that Toyota truck in the background is a friend visiting to wish you well. I can't imagine any self respecting Smith and Wesson enthusiast and patriotic 'Merican would be driving a Jap truck.

Jus' saying...stay safe and enjoy!

That sure is a whole lot swankier than my old Honda 90 I had as a kid. Congrats on the new ride.

Wow. What a gorgeous machine; the pistons in that thing are of similar diameter to those in a Chevy 350.

Rider magazine said of this bike: "If Mongo in Blazing Saddles had ridden a motorcycle instead of a Brahma bull, this would be it. "

:D

That sounds just right, to me...

Happy to hear you've recovered:) That Triumph is a BEAST for sure, and beautiful:D

Nice looking ride. Good to hear that you'll be back in the saddle come riding season.

I totaled my 2007 HD Electra Glide in October of 2013 and spent a couple of nights in the hospital, mainly for "observation". Insurance paid off and I had a new 2014 Electra Glide in the garage in mid January. Many well meaning folks were chastising me at the time saying I'd gotten lucky the first time around and maybe I should hang up riding. The experience certainly has given me a more focused awareness but I love it too much to hang it up at this point.

Be safe out there! The only person watching out for you is you.

Great looking bike. I applaud you for getting back on.

After my accident, the most I did was a test ride, so when I got off, it was my decision. That was after I think surgery #9 and almost 9 years ago. It is now almost 10 years and 24 surgeries post accident. I miss the ride, but I am content finally being pain free and raising my two children.

I wish you the best of luck with your new ride!

Looks like a Toyota Tundra, probably more American made than some Merican trucks.
I ride a Jap bike, made in the USA, welcome to the new world order.

To the OP, congrats on the great new ride.

You'll catch criticism for riding again, but you do what you do.

I spent a month in the hospital and another three months in bed after my crash, and I still get criticism and incredulous questions from family and friends who disapprove of me riding again, even after five years..

All i can do is shrug, cause I can't explain it to someone who doesn't know.

I didn't even know Triumph made a touring bike let alone one like that. Very cool looking bike.
My last bike was a Honda 1800c VTX and IMO was the best all around bike I ever owned. That bike had 105hp and would get up and go. Good thing it had a rev limiter because I hit it many times when I first got it.

Knock on wood I was never involved in an accident. They can be a mind bender sometimes.

Gman, a friend had one of those when they first came out. He let me ride it and kept nagging at me to see what it would do.
When I hit 135 I started thinking about what that hot asphalt would do to me if something went wrong. I decided that day high speed on a MC is not for me.

Going down at 135 they would wouldn't be able to find enough of your body to say who was riding it.
A Harley rider and myself were traveling around 120 mph for maybe ten miles before I backed it down to get off at my exit. Yep that bike still had more to go.
