If you could only have 1 J frame, what would it be?

I've got to admit I'd never even thought of using a speed strip with a pouch like your Galco or my old 1980's vintage dump pouch from DeSantis issued to me by my first LE agency.

I usually just throw a speed strip into the pocket. I don't think my pouch has seen the light of day for 30 years. :p

It really is handy. Much easier/quicker to get the Speed Strip than digging around in the pocket and keeps the rounds from falling all over the place when you open up the carrier (the Galco version flips down when opened).

So does the DeSantis.

(At least that's what I think it is. We used to use a lot of Gene's gear back then. Our range officer would call him up and we'd drive out and pick it up in New Hyde Park or somewhere nearby as I recall. The leather gear was a lot nicer back then too. I have a J frame holster from back then that still looks like new and the leather is so much thicker than current production.)

I've used a lot of Galco gear over the years as well.

I'm gonna have to go rummaging for that pouch now. :p

If I could have but one, this would be it. I've carried this little gun all over for years. Mostly without the Mika, which is fairly new. Nabbed that from a forum member a few months ago.

J Frame reply

I only have one J frame that I really enjoy. S&W 637, 38spl.+P, single/double action. It's a S&W performance center gun with very nice wooden Talo grips. I needed these grips, for my hand is very wide and the extra long grips allows my pinkey finger to also grip the gun. I have a pocket holster for it and it's very comfortable for me. I have a 4" 357 magnum (686 plus) 7 shot that I kept bed side but realized the sound could damage my wifes and my ears if (God forbid) I would ever have to use it, so I now keep the J frame bed side in a biometric safe fastened to the top of the night stand. I take the "J" to the range every so many visits to keep sharp with it, and really enjoy shooting it. Such a nice gun and fun to shoot. I had originally purchased this gun for my wife, but she showed very little interest, so I thought I might sell it but once I started taking it to the range, and carried it in the pocket holster I will never sell it. Something about a small revolver. Life is good.

I love my no dash 640 .357, but it is more for training and not practical as a J frame, a K carries as easily so, I would have to go with the PC 642 with rubber combat grips in either the Bianchi ISWB or my DeSantis pocket holster with strips and HKS loaders.

Am I the only one to carry a 342 Ti?

No. I have one too. Great pocket carry due to weight and +P rating. I think if I had to choose only one as a "do it all" I'd probably choose a 60 in .357 trim. I know they're a handful with magnums but having the option of using magnums adds versatility to the platform. Still pocketable and maybe capable of better accuracy with the single action option. (Although the 342 is no slouch with practice.)

Three inch 60-10......357, adjustable sights.......... think "micro-686".

Small enough to carry concealed....... and still do double duty as a "Kit Gun"

...what he said... I did have an extra cylinder fitted to mine so I can also shoot 9mm/.38 Super/.356 TSW/9mm Largo....

I was always informed by my mother with the levels of summer perspiration, "Horses sweat, men perspire, and women glow."

Edmo

...the other night a lady friend had a slightly different version...

" Men sweat, women perspire and ballerinas glow"...

I would choose my old Model 42 Centennial. To validate it usefulness, it displays an abundance of character wear. S&W shipped it on Jan. 23, 1962 to Evaluators Ltd., Triangle, VA (Quantico).

Model 36 3" barrel, square butt with Pachmyer grip. Great shooter, great balance, pretty accurate too. As concealable as my 9mm 3.5 barrel

Why not load the 686+ with 38 special rounds which are standard pressure 158 grain?

It is 38 special and if a heavy slow round is used, it won't be much louder than your 637 with slightly more capacity and accuracy as its heavier.

I would likely keep the 637 handy as it can disappear in a bathrobe pocket...

Actually I would think the 686 would be quieter yet not sacrifice velocity due to barrel length
