Just noticed Midway is selling the newly stocked Speer 240 JSP (FP) for $.14 apiece.
Speer has not been selling any of their 44 bullets for quite awhile except the plated SD numbers, notably the 200gr 44 special GDHP.
I hope this means that maybe they will resurrect the 270 JSP that shot so well in the 444.
$.14 is pretty dang cheap for a jacketed major brand 44 bullet.
Mine are on the way. :)

You got me too! Couple boxes of these + a few other odds and ends=$100

Guess I'm doing my part to keep the economy going.

Header says Jacketed Soft Point but the item description below says Hollow Cavity . Which is it ? Could have picked a better looking bullet for their picture, that one has an odd chunk of lead hanging off the top .

I also noticed that this is a "one time deal".
That may mean this is a factory clear-out.
I had hoped this indicated Speer getting back into the main stream 44 bullet business.
For the price you can use whatever they send for plinking.
That's my plan.
Midway just had most of Hornady's 44 bullets as seconds for sale.
They weren't that good a deal and don't appeal to me much.

I got mine tonight and loaded some up under some 300-MP and will be heading to the range tomorrow to see how my Smith 69 likes them!

I got mine today also. Been using 240gr Hornady XTP's but for way less money these should work just as good. I'll be loading these with 2400 for my Super Redhawk. I also threw in a set of 357 Sig dies in the order so I'll probably start working on those since I've already got a bunch of 44's loaded.

This is looking more like a factory clearance due to the fact Midway is doing the boxing.
And the price.
Normally these would have come in a Speer box.
Midway bought a railcar full, maybe all there are, and is putting them in nice plastic boxes.
Doesn't sound like business as usual.
Ordered a few more 100.
And Eddie is right. The bullets look nothing like the picture.

My 400 showed up today. Look like they will shoot just fine. Anyone care to share their favorite Unique load for these? I have a couple #. Also looking for a recommended load for my 1894 Marlin in .44mag.

Thanks

So I guess I will try and answer my own questions.

Speer #14 shows 9.2 - 10.3 Unique for this bullet in a revolver. No load listed with Unique for my lever gun though. Any thoughts on why?

6 Grains Unique in a 44 special for a nice normal accurate round
7 grains for a high end top velocity and pressure load in 44 special.
8 grains in a 44 magnum for a nice target/small game load.
9-10 grains for a top velocity and pressure load in 44 magnum.
Just because Speer starts at 9 grains doesn't mean you can't go lower with Unique in the magnum.

Lever guns for revolver rounds are usually rated for those same rounds.
They are not all that much stronger than the best revolvers.
Just use your magnum revolver load.
The slower powders like 2400 or 296 will show more velocity gain from the long barrel than Unique.
The maximum standard load for the 44 magnum both in handgun and rifle is 24 grains 296 under a 240 JHP/JSP.
There is no real need for a special lever rifle load unless you want to tweak it slightly (by going LOWER) for accuracy.
You certainly don't want to put an overpressure rifle round in one of your fine revolvers by accident.

Thank you sir. Exactly the information I was looking for.

I see so little Speer stuff....

...I was thinking that they were 'floating along' making a few products and getting ready to close up. I used to be able to buy all the Speer stuff I wanted anytime I wanted. Now you can't find anything and if you do, it's not what you want. I bought some Gold Dots from a forum member because I hadn't seen any in years in the caliber I wanted, much less the weght.
