Just Ordered an M&P Sport II and I'm Cool (New Member)

You can always not take possession of the AR when it gets to your FFL.....always an option.

GUYS, I will try to post some pictures, but my wife's folks got here today from Indiana until Monday. Her Dad doesn't have a pistol, BUT, I think he can HELP talk his daughter into letting me get a gun. I mentioned it and his initial feedback was, he was on board.

Got my AR15

Picked up my Smith & Wesson M&P Sport II Yesterday, May 31st. I PICKED her up yesterday at the PAWN Shop on the way home from work. The shop smells like 1975, and is really old and run down, but the owner was nice and it's $10 COB! Cash on the Barrel...Can't beat that!

S&W just ships it in a little box with some black foam (as you guys know), cheap *******s! But for $499, what can you expect. It's alot smaller than I thought, of course it wasn't extended.

Got home, and my wife had flown in yesterday and was back in town, BUT, not at home when I pulled in, so I brought it upstairs and hid (I know, but what the hell else am I gonna do?) it behind a book case in the corner of my office. Came with a Magazine, and a lock. Haven't really had the chance to do much with it. I'm also seriously thinking of returning the Plano 42" case I bought with the PLINK OUT FOAM for a 36", just more compact and easier to manage. I don't need to put my whole arsenal in the 42" case, so I think I am planning to do that.

Other Goodies:
Also got my Howard Leight Powered Muffs/Headphones from Walk-Mart, great deal at $55, and I got my Bushnell TRS-32 Red Dot Scope, need to send in the 25% rebate!

Tomorrow I have scheduled for delivery my 500 rounds of .223 PMC Ammo coming from Palmetto Armory and (10) of those metal AR15 Magazines, $7.99 each.

Also tomorrow I have 400 more rounds of PMC .223 and 300 rounds of American Eagle 9MM from Cabellas.

Yesterday, I also went to Academy and got the Hoppes No. 9 Gun Cleaning Kit. Doesn't come with a 9MM brush, so I got one of those too and a can of gun spray lube. $24.99 for the kit, Cabellas wanted $39 for the same one. For the money it will allow me to clean both guns, just need to buy more pads.

Safe Update
I finally talked to the Safe Moving Company that I wanted to use. Family owned, good people, and I spoke to owner 25 minutes and knew he was the man for the job. Before price came into play, I talked him through the install and then suggested sending him pictures, so I sent him 20 pictures. After seeing them, he said going through the grass was too dangerous! He is going to go up the stairs (with a powered stair climber dolly) in the garage where safe is located still in the box. Last quote I got from a dude saying he was going to use a Pallet Jack (no thanks) was $350.

This morning after he looked at the pictures, he gave me a Very Fair Quote, and I trust them to be careful and do it right.

Quote was:

$235 to move it inside
$35 to bolt it down
$5 per step (have 4, 5 if you count the top), so $290-$295. I'm good with that!

That's it for now. I think I can get my wife's Dad to help me talk her into allowing me to get a hand gun. I can get it if I want, but don't want to piss her off, especially with a weapon that she feels could hurt our daughter, just need to educate her. But I am just going to worry about the pistol for now. One victory at a time. Then later on, the AR-15 will just appear, Magically, in the safe. I'll say, I've been praying and Jesus must have got it for me, Oh NO.......Someone broke in the safe and they put an AR15 in there, or I'll just tell her, "Happy Anniversary Honey", it's all yours, enjoy!

Then she'll probably give me my button and I'll say, do you mind pinning it on for me? Oh well, a guy can DREAM can't he??????????????

Good luck with that rebate. I just picked up a TRS-25 to add to one of my 15-22s. Got it because the seller advertised it as having a 25% rebate. Went to fill out the online rebate form.

After I filled in the UPC the form said that UPC is not eligible for the rebate.

I got a good deal on it, and I like it, so I'm going to keep it anyway. Evidently red dots aren't included in the rebate.

Yes, but the kit did come with a .30 cal brush and that's the size you need for a 9mm. You can return the 9mm brush. They should have told you that.

I didn't ask, just read some reviews saying, the kit doesn't come with a 9mm brush? I saw a 9mm brush for a few bucks, so I figured the 9mm brush is for a 9mm barrel? It's NOT? Or is the .30 slightly larger and that is what you're supposed to use? I am confused a little.

The guy at the store, must have "BRUSHED" Me Off! :D:D:D:confused::eek::rolleyes::rolleyes:

That stinks, still got a great deal, but I am going to re-check just to make sure. I didn't see that it said NO RED DOTS, but I'm sure you are right.

To the OP: The goal with the brush is to have it bigger than the diameter of the bore. The degree of larger isn't particularly significant, within reason. (i.e. if it's too big it'll be tough to push it down the barrel at all). But the brush is bigger than the bore specifically so it'll push up against the inside of the barrel, including the rifling, and scrub it. If you're new to cleaning with a brass brush:
* You never use steel. (Can steel brushes be bought? I presume not.)
* You don't want to change direction of the cleaning rod until the brush has completely exited the barrel. E.g. When cleaning from the rear, make sure the brush completely exits the muzzle before you pull it back through. (And some might say don't pull it back through, but rather unscrew the brush from the rod, pull out the rod, reattach the brush, and push it through back-to-front only. But me.....I pull it front-to-back after I've pushed it back-to-front.)

I'm not following the comment a .30 cal brush will work in 9mm. I couldn't find what the typical actual size of a .30 cal brush is. 9mm is .355 caliber. So I guess what is being said is that a brush that is used to clean a .30 cal is bigger than .355. A more frequent question is whether a brush for a .38 Special/.357 can be used to clean a 9mm. (i.e. A brush designed for a caliber larger than 9mm being used on a 9mm.) And in that scenario my understanding is the answer is 'yes' - that .38/.357 brush is fine in a 9mm.

OR

Sorry, I should have said .38 (.357) cal. Typo on my part.

When you look up that kit, it says, "Includes a 3-piece brass rod, 4 slotted ends, 5 phosphor bronze brushes to fit .22 and .30 caliber rifles, .38 caliber pistols, and 20 and 12 gauge shotguns."

9mm = .354"
A .38cal actually uses .357" diameter bullets.

This means that the kit he bought includes the proper brush. It won't hurt having an extra around. You just don't need it. And you will find that the 9mm brush is exactly the same diameter as a .38/.357 brush.

You can get steel brushes made for Dremels and for drills but they aren't meant to be used in a gun bore. That doesn't mean some people don't use them anyway. My brother hooked one up to a drill on the end of a cleaning rod and ran it up and down inside the bore of his .22. He said he did it all the time. It sure was clean when he finished and the rifling was still there surprisingly. I guess barrels are pretty tough really since they are made of steel. But that had to shorten the lifespan of his rifles. He didn't care. He just bought a new rifle if he started having accuracy issues. Some people. :) I wish I had him back so I could laugh at him again over this.

Is this a real thread?

I hear ya fill like lost a few mins of my life reading this haha .really? You fill the need to bolt down a1000lb safe? Mine's 360 empty an with all the firearms an ammo probably pushing about 450-500 I'm guessing. I challenge you to even get it out of the room it's in yet alone the house

If its not bolted it gives the thieves something to concentrate on while you flank their position :D

With all the lugs on that safe it's highly unlikely that safe would be breached he was worried about it being stolen it's all good what ever works for you

You got it into the house, right? If it can be taken into the house by a couple of guys, it can be taken out of the house by a couple of guys.

Thieves steal Lubbock man's safe with about 30 guns inside - KCBD NewsChannel 11 Lubbock

You bolt it down for a number of reasons... to keep thieves from just taking the whole thing, and to keep thieves from moving it to get a better angle to try to pry the door open, or keep them from trying to puncture the steel and peel it away from a corner.

Hey GUYS. Lost a little steam lately on my long, interesting, funny, whitey, and all over the place thread. Ha Ha.

Returned 42" case, not shooting AR15 for a bit. Get to Safe in a minute.

For Father's Day. Yes I'm a tea Father! I was thinking of GUILTING (I mean Asking) my wife to just let me get a gun. I don't want a present. Just let me get a gun. Of course I already have A few. Will report back. If she says NO. I'll say, just don't but me anything then!

I'm making progress on my SAFE. Finally opened up box. Wife was out of town 2 days and My 7 year old daughter convinced me open it. Had to cut metal straps. And take off a bunch off stuff. It's on A wooden pallet but wasn't bolted to it. Found where I'm putting it. I have to cut some things to make it fit and my neighbor has all kinds of wood working tools so he said he'd do it. M

OK First Why Am I BOLTING it down??
I saw some smart answers!

1. Yes if a safe isn't bolted down, a thief can easily flip it on its back and use pry bars to open the door. LEVERAGE!!!! Try prying a door standing up with your hands vs being able to do the same with 4 guys putting all their weight on a pet bar. Still not easy but it can be done. Go LOOK on You Tube and search safe pry bar attacks and you will SEE LIVE it being done by 2 beasts!

2. Bolting down also presents a thief from putting it on a heavy duty DOLLY and wheeling it out of your house. How do you think the Safe Movers are going to get it inside??? On a friggin Powered Dolly. It's easy if you have the right equipment.

3. I didn't by my $2,500 safe to protect a $499 M&P15, $500 XP Mod2 9MM hand gun and a $250 Wal-Mart Shotgun I bought 15 years ago. So GUNS weren't the reason I bought a safe and I've been looking 2 years on an off.

4. Safe is 930 lbs. when full, it will be closer to 1,600 lbs. 🤠🤠[emoji850][emoji850][emoji850][emoji1303]

5. I'm an Idiot! But we all knew that already.

So good replies. Yes Pry attacks and wheeling it away is Why I'm bolting it to my slab and ANOTHER huge reason is it's going to cost me an extra $35, so why the hell wouldn't I?

The safe looks so nice. Still in garage but I took box off the top of it where I could open it. The owner put some goodies in there for me. We got to be buds somewhat and he took care of me. I saw a Eagle Magnetic Graphic, Large one, and a Pistol Rack. I'm waiting until this morning because my daughters l excited and wants me to wait for her to open and see what's inside.

I'm going to have a safe mover come next week and I'll do my prep work this weekend.

Thanks for all the replies. You Guys are All Great!!!!

I'll get out and shoot the AR15 soon. I bought a Loader for it from eBay. It's Called an UP Toola? Or something. Seemed to make sense. I bought one for my 9MM and it's Awesome and a fast!

Have a great weekend Everyone!!.

The Bandit.

My Wife asked me what I wanted for Father's Day? I said, nothing, I don't know? My PLAN is to ask if I can just get her to be OK with me getting a Hand Gun?

If she doesn't feel safe with a gun in the house (Oxy Moron) what can I do? Again, I have HAD a ShotGun sitting in a closet, unlocked for 12 years in a case. The SAFE Has To HELP!

I mean I Now Have a 1,000 lb. safe it's going to go inside. Can't get much safer than that. I'm not planning on shooting anyone! BUT, if something ever did happen, at least I have a way to protect us.

She says we live in a safe neighborhood, and I said, that's what everyone says before their house gets broken into. If it never happens then it's business as usual, the gun will never come out, except for range.

However, if anything EVER does happen, at least I have a chance. I told her what am I going to do if anything does happen? Hide in the closet and hope I don't get my *** kicked or shot? Or God Forbid, anything happened to our family....................

I think it will help when I get some time under my belt, so she doesn't think I am a complete idiot who knows nothing about guns. And she's right, I am NO Expert, but I know how to be SAFE, Very Safe, and I knwo more than she thinks I know.

It's ALL My Fault for being stupid and buying a 9mm AND an AR15 prior to getting a temp. check.

I have a nice wife, great mother, she's a cancer nurse, makes money, and doesn't spend a whole lot of it. Plus she's quite attractive, so I can't mess that up just for a gun. So, IF after ALL my attempts, it ends up being a futile effort. I will make one of you fine fellow a sweet deal on an unfired AR15.

Have you looked to see if they have any beginner firearms classes in your area?

If your going to have to sell it if she says "No" anyways, I would bring it out and show her that you bought one.

And then tell her for Fathers Day you signed up for a beginners class and bought the pistol for that. You could tell her if she still feels the same after the class then you'll sell it but at least let you have your fun for a weekend or how ever long the class lasts?

If she agrees and see's how happy you are coming back from the class she might change her mind?

You could use the old " I love my family too much not to own a pistol" routine!
