Shoot my Shield 9mm better than my G19

Since getting my Shield, in the range trips I have taken both my Shield and Glock G19 to the range together I find that I shoot my Shield actually BETTER than my G19. I like the Glock don't get me wrong, and my Gen 4 G19 has been 100% reliable, however like many people I just don't have the 'Glock' hand that is a perfect fit for the Glock grip, and like many other people on the 'interweb' I have a tendency to shoot my Glock to the left (common Glock complaint...I don't have this issue with my Shield, my 1911, my Kahr PM9, my Ruger SR22, my GSG 1911 22lr).
The width, length, and back strap and shape to the grip right under the slight beaver tail on the Shield fits my hand just right, while the Glock just doesn't fit 'as good', and the finger grooves on the G19 don't perfectly line up for me.
Even the perceived recoil from the Shield feels better to me because my hand just seems to fit better one it.
So questions:
1. How do the full size M&P 9mm's compare in grip (other than width) to the Shield?
2. I love the capacity of the G19....but I wouldn't be opposed to using my Shield as my 'nightstand' pistol as well...Should I be concerned about not having 15+1 at my disposal compared to 8+1?
3. Anyone else gone away from a Glock to the Shield (or M&P) like this because of the Glock grip?

Just an observation from someone who doesn't have a Glock. I carry the 9mm Shield almost every day. Great gun. I also have a 9mm full size M&P at my bedside. Both shoot great but I like the feel of the full size a little better and LOVE shooting that one. My love of the full size led me to buying the shield since the FS was a little large for concealed carry.

if your worried about capacity, and smiths fit your hand better then glock I would go with the sd9 series, better grip and higher capacity, and way cheaper!

I feel like I shoot my Shield as well as (perhaps better than) my FS 9. I keep the FS by the bed with two extra magazines. 52 rounds (17+1+17+17) should be sufficient. If not, there's always the 12ga within reach.

Why not find a range where you can rent a FS and see how it works for you?

i miss my shield... father in-law has it now. i have 2 G19, and have gone back to 2 442-2s for carry. no matter how much time i have with any/all bottom feeders, my airweights just seem right, and feel more confident with 'em. i'd carry my TRP, but its heavy, and just not as easy to use as a good old 442... last class i took, shot my g19 like a rock star. just in my humble opinion and honest take on carry, a 5 shot snubie is the best EDC ever.

I like my G19 g4 and shoot it great. It doesn't feel as good in my hand, but my results are what counts.
I just find the Shield easier/comfortable to carry. But if I ever was forced to defend myself I'm certain I'll wish I had my G19 with me. Love me lots of rounds!

I group my g19 well, just seem to shoot it left, I have about 1200 rounds through it. It's weird, the shield grip is just so nice for my hand that when I go to the g19 it doesn't feel as good.
After handling the G19 a bit more today I'm kicking around the idea of grinding off the finger groves on it and stipling the front of the grip

I got rid of my G-19 after I got acquainted to the SD9VE,the only Glock I have left is a G23.

this is where the sd9's shine, for those who want g19 size and capacity without the price tag, and with $150 to $200 savings that's five extra sixteen round mags, all with that wonderful grip angle! IMHO shields and sd9/sd9ves are the best deals going for carry/hd/sd, one of each can fill any roll jmho :)

I was pretty die hard Glock until I first fired an M&P. The M&P grip and trigger reach fit my medium sized hand more comfortably (even with the large blackstrap) than even the Gen 4 Glocks. Compared to the Shield, the full sized M&P is still going to feel wider. I have a 9mm Shield and a G43, and the slender profile of both frames takes some retraining of thought and feel. There are, of course similarities, but enough differences to affect shooting performance. Through training, one can overcome the differences and shoot accurately with either platform.

Back when Gen 1 Glocks were simply "Glocks" ( likewise G17 were simply " Glocks " ) , I thought it fit me great, and never had issues with shooting left . XXL hands .

I won't make blank comparisons of Shield against other brands, but will make the observation that as a subcompact-ish pistol , it offers practical accuracy and control that are well within the expectations for a full size pistol.

Me!! My Shield (9mm) shoots better than my former 43 and 26! I'm convinced it's due to the grip angle.

As for your G19 capacity question, a spare 8 round mag nearby, or better yet, a new 2.0 17+1, solves that problem. The 2.0s accuracy is the best I've seen!! Simply amazing!!

I carried a G20 for a decade, thought it was great then, but now I don't know how I ever liked the feel of a Glock, or the grip angle of a Glock.
I had an Springfield XD for a while and thought it was great, until I shot an M&P.
My Shields feel really good, but not as good as my Fullsize .40.

I think we all get wrapped around the axel with magazine capacity (I def do). I have switched between my G19/23 to my shield 9/45. I have always been a fan of more ammo the better, BUT having said that I doubt very highly I will be involved in a running gun battle where I have to lay down suppressive fire and move from cover to cover. Again, with all the recent active shooters abroad using AK's even a G19 is no match against a rifle. My shield 9mm as been my EDC gun now for about a month, I have the maggots +2 magazine Which have been 110% flawless after well over 600 rounds. That make's my 7 round mag 9 rounds +1 in the chamber for a total of 10 with a spare magazine. We also have the ability to pick and choose my battles (sorta speak) Unlike a LEO. I am confident My 10 rounds Shield 9mm will be sufficient for any/all encounters that I CHOOSE to get involved in.
Its laser accurate its been 100% reliable and it fires a decent defensive round. I think the Hi cap pistols def def have their place in the CCW world BUT so do the single stack guns. Unlike a Police Officer we get to choose our battles, They are thrown INTO battle with little to no notice and they mostly do that with their issued sidearm.

Just my 2 cents

Gostovp,

You're a good shot. I don't have a Glock 19, but I've shot it and it certainly shoots much better for me than my 9mm Shield. Although YMMV, I wouldn't recommend the Shield to a beginner. I finally got to the point where the Shield is accurate up to 15 yards. The Shield still does not work well for me at 25 yards. Nevertheless, I going to put some of Trijicon's HD RX sights on it as soon as I receive authorization to purchase a Sig Sauer P320.

I do have a G23 and like KF-NYC, I shoot the Glock much better than my 40 Shield at 25 yards. At 10 or 15 yards the Shield works pretty well for me.

I took my g17 along with my new shield9 to the range, did a bit better with my shield 9.

When I was preparing for my CCW test several years ago I did a dry run of the whole course of fire with the Shield and with 2 much bigger 9mm's, and the Shield won out. I passed the test with the Shield, which was appropriate since it was what I planned to carry, and I've carried it every day since. Next time I take the test I figure to use my Springfield Range Officer .45 with Fastfire 3. It's darn near unfair, as evidenced by the 20 shot hole here: Still carrying the Shield, though.
