I watched Hickcock45's YouTube video on the Smith & Wesson 4006 TSW and could not believe he said he had never fired any of the Smith & Wesson Gen 1,2,3 automatics. He was not very kind in his review. He said he had only picked one up in passing, never fired one, never wanted to and never had any interests in one. This from a man who has fired and reviewed thousands of guns. Critical of its weight, slide mounted safety and other things he disliked. How can a so called firearms expert have never have fired an American handgun that has been used by thousands of police officers and shooter's from the 1950's. Unbelievable!!!

If you watch a lot of his videos, he does state his own personal preferences for a pistol: A consistent trigger from first shot and no slide mounted safety. He doesn't really like the Beretta M9 for the same reasons.

To be fair, he does speak pretty kindly to guns he probably despises. I saw the video in question, and I think he liked shooting it, even though he has no interest in having one.

I'd probably be much harsher on a Glock or stiker fired pistol like those. I wouldn't want it for free. Good thing we all like different things.

I'm not sure what a firearms expert is and I've never heard Hickok45 call himself that. Is an expert someone who knows everything about everything? Is there such a person except in their own minds? I think he's just a guy who loves to shoot and makes very insightful videos about it by not writing about, but actually shooting. He does say he tries out guns viewers keep asking him to which he sometimes says he never had interest in. His knowledge about the history of guns he shoots is pretty extensive except when he himself says he isn't sure about something.
Gunwriters for magazines are often given assignment to test guns they have no interest in. I think Hickok is just a regular guy who found a fun way to test guns via these videos. And the guy is a really good shot who doesn't edit out mistakes.

Here's a tidbit for you....those older Smith autos are not everyone's favorite. I honestly dont like them at all. Back in the day when they were on the store shelves, they sat right next to much cheaper Rugers, much better Sig P series...and the new "plastic" guns that none of us were all that sure of (Glock). They were heavy, have terrible first shot double action triggers, and everytime I picked one up...the grip felt so dumb and cheap...like they cut a bicycle inner tune and stretched it over the grip frame.
Hickok45 gives honest reviews, and he gave HIS review. The man is allowed his opinion. I think he was way too kind. Ya know why those style Smiths are gone, but Sig P series are still around? Because not enough people really wanted them. Law enforcement to this day is still a Glock and Sig world, and there's a reason for it. Again, well made pistols but certainly not the Cadillac of handguns.

Hickock45... "said he had only picked one up in passing, never fired one, never wanted to and never had any interest in one." Personally, I could say the same about his "beloved Glocks". I prefer Walther for my polymer pistols. A choice is wonderful.

The best description of an expert that I ever hears was this: "An expertise is person WH knows more and more about less and less." That is how and why they become experts. Hickok 45 is a very good gun reviewer who has every right to his opinion, choices, and conclusions. He is not an expert.

I'm a big fan of Hickock 45, I've bought quite a few handguns after watching his reviews. Maybe I need to watch him less.
Why because he didn't like the 4006? So what? It's not everyone's cup of tea!

I don't watch his reviews all that much because to me he doesn't really review, it's not focused on what I'm interested in.

He is a youtube expert, firearms his how he makes money off of viewers. Without youtube, he like a lot of other youtube experts would be looking for jobs.

I know this is going to upset his followers, but his opinion is worth what you pay for it. It should be considered entertainment, if not entertained by his opinion then don't watch. If you do watch keep in mind this guy makes his spending money playing in his backyard.

Definitely not his best production...? He had a couple problems with breaking down the Gen 3 & the M&P as well.

Now, when it came to shooting it he really liked it, and shot it extremely well, pretty much as he always does. At almost 40 ounces it would admittedly be a a pretty heavy carry piece, but for home defense or for someone who actually intends TO SHOOT THE WEAPON ON A REGULAR BASIS (as in "at the range" or otherwise?), what's not to like about one? Don't hear much about "concealed carry" situations within the California HIGHWAY PATROL, do you?

In case you can't tell he is much more of a very experienced enthusiast who happens to also be a very good shot and whose attraction is his folksy delivery and ability to ENTERTAIN his intended audience. I don't really recall him ever claiming to be any kind of firearms "expert"...? I like and enjoy him: quite often I agree with him and his observations are often quite inciteful, IMHO!

CHEERS!

Remember.......Opinions are like exhaust pipes......Everybody's got one.......I don't let internet cowboys influence my decisions..........

History is full of people who turned a hobby into an occupation. If you want one very notable example read up on the early history of Henry Ford. He started out building a automobile in his garage because he wanted to have one and wasn't wealthy enough to purchase what was currently available. BTW, Henry kept that thought in mind when he started cranking out the Model T and was such a success because instead of making automobiles for the wealthy he made automobiles for everyone who had employment.

Point being that "playing in their backyard" can at times lead to a history changing invention or idea". If you want more examples Newton and Einstein come to mind pretty quickly.

Granted Hickok isn't an Einstein but he is entertaining and many of his reviews do have a real value for those looking to explore a new area of firearms. I'll also note that the early S&W semi's are a total PITA to field strip and re-assemble. Which is why I prefer Sig Sauer's pistols over the S&W semi's.

Arik you need to re read my post, I said I'm a big fan of Hickcock 45. The reason I need to watch him less is ,an Ed Brown Special Forces after watching his review, 3 Springfield Professionals after watching his review, a S&W model 27-2 after watching his review. That is just the tip of the iceberg the list goes on and on. If I have an interest in a revolver or a pistol, I google Hickcock 45 to check to see if he did a video on it. I feel he does a great job reviewing, in my case, sometimes too good. As far as the S&W automatics, don't have any not my cup of tea.

The S&W semi autos of new and old never appealed to me either. It's just a preference. But I watched the video because I like to learn about guns I know nothing about. That's why I watch a majority of his videos. Just to see how they shoot and he also does a good job of explaining the history of the guns he is shooting.
