Here's a tidbit for you....those older Smith autos are not everyone's favorite...They were heavy, have terrible first shot double action triggers, and everytime I picked one up...the grip felt so dumb and cheap...like they cut a bicycle inner tune and stretched it over the grip frame.
All depends on your perspective. When I carried a 39-2 it felt downright airy compared to the 28-2 it replaced and carried half again the round count. I never thought the walnut grips felt like inner tubes. Would I pick one today? Probably not, but back then they worked just fine and the trigger pull, while not as light as a striker-fired gun, didn't have the weight of the cylinder on it, either. SIGs were a pipe dream for a few more years except for those who could afford one in Browning BDA form.
